Bob, my expert witness stayed at the airport Marriot and said it was pretty good, at least for a Marriot. I think they have a wine and cheese happy hour at 5 each evening. That's a pretty popular thing at hotels down there. The main disadvantage of it is that it isn't right downtown in the historic district where you can go walking around and see three things on every block that's interesting and historic. When you get there, check hotel rates at the nicer establishments near the historic district and see if you can get something close enough to make the switch possible. But if you have a car, you'll be able to see everything you want whenever you have time for it.
I was there for about 12 days over the course of three visits, and my favorite thing was to just walk around the downtown area, looking at the shops, art galleries, churches and public buildings, and then walking down Queen Street to the water, and hanging out on the public pier. That never got old for me because there was always something more to see. The one day I got to spend just touring the city my local counsel took me to the French Quarter market (total tourist trap, but fun), churches, graveyards, and then drove me around to see the historic houses. A day well spent. I walked by some of the dungeon and ghost walking tours, and they looked interesting. I wasn't as impressed with the horsedrawn carriages. If I had had the time, I would have gone to Patriot's Point, and if I had time beyond that I would have taken some kind of a boat cruise. It's a great city, and much smaller than it seems. The best way to get to know it is to just jump right into it. A lot of nice eateries have "common tables" for people who show up without reservations. It's kind of like having a big table in the bar area where strangers sit next to each other and eat. I did that at Hank's one night and had a very nice meal next to a team of federal contractors on a day trip from DC where they were training military police in interrogation for duty in points east. An interesting meal. |
Everybody-
Thank you...I will read this thread again when I get there and jump in head first. I will have my laptop and possibly my camera and take some pictures and load them in this thread. Any other recommendations are always welcome.... Thanks again, Bob |
