Question about bringing a car in from Canada:
I figured maybe someone from the PNW or BC might know the answer to this, I'm looking at a ROW mid-'80s 911 in Canada that I would really like to bring into and register in the U.S. It's never been "federalised" for the U.S. but maybe Canada has some of the same requirements(?) I'll admit that I know zero about their laws.
I do know a little about bringing "grey market" ROW cars into the U.S. back in the '80s, I know that they had to be retro-fitted w/ all U.S. equipment and pass some sort of inspection besides having all customs papers in order, etc. I'm kind of hoping that there is an expiration involved when a car reaches a certain age or something, I don't mind paying the duty on it at the border. (Whatever that is). Anyone know? TIA. ![]()

I brought an ROW car into BC. There was some paperwork and an inspection involved—but not much else.
Your case is really a US/Cali issue—not a Canadian one.

Actually it would be a US/Minnesota issue, I'm looking for info on American requirements these days.

Like dottore, I know the process for US > Canada. A quick search brought up this:

Thank you, Ian!
That link, (and the links available from it), really contain all of the resources necessary to answer all questions.

Be aware that on the Canadian side, we pay PST (provincial sales tax) on a private sale & PST + GST (goods & services tax) on dealer sales. If the car is shipped these will be exempt (I assume). If you buy & drive, you might have to pay & claim back . . . I don't know.
dottore: What's PST in BC? Ian

If the car is over 25 years old, it's easy. If it's under that, it's a pain and probably wouldn't be worth it.
