Vista won't connect to wireless network. Please help.

Ladies and Gentlemen.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. No doubt this is a simple fix that my outdated talents cannot fathom. I drive a '77 911 for goodness sake. Still playing with points!

I have a new vista powered notebook and I cannot get my wireless connection to connect. I have WPA security only enabled and my old XP notebook (5 years old) can connect with no problem, every time. This new Vista notebook can see the network, but when I try to connect, I always get the same error "Wireless authentication failed because of a timeout."

The fact that my old notebook can connect and my new notebook can see the wireless network makes me think that my wireless router settings are OK. I can connect the new notebook with a cable to the wireless router no problem.

The Pelican community is a vast array of knowledge that has been extremely helpful in the past. I now turn to that diversified expertise instead of Google. Am I overly fixated on Porsche and it's community?........................................ ......Yes.

Thank you
Craig.

Turn off the password protection to make sure it can connect at all. Once it does, be very careful about the username/password on the new machine. It sounds like it's something easy, like the caps lock key is on or something. Good luck!

We did the conversion from XP to Vista with our home network. One laptop used XP, the other Vista. Connection to the wireless network wasn't a problem. There may a few items that need to be addressed if it doesn't automatically connect. Follow the instructions from here:

Overall, I like Vista, but it does have a few issues that make things more complicated then they need to be. Setting up a home network and file sharing being one of them.

Your steering wheel is on the wrong side, that has to be the issue. :). I give a smartassed answer because 89911 seems to have hit the correct answer. :)
P.S. I like Vista, but I have the 64 bit system and I have to find patches and such for things like my printer.

32 bit print drivers will not work with newer 64 bit systems and dedicated drivers of Vista, right?

I love that chin spolier on the red car.

Bravo the 1977's, I have one but the points have been replaced with the Pertronix Ignitor system. I never understood points to be honest.
