Technical animation

Does anyone here do technical animation? I am tasked with putting together an animation of a product we're developing. I'm using SolidWorks for the design, and am using the animator package to do the animation.

The software seems up to snuff for short animations with a few components, but my assembly consists of hundreds of parts and about two minutes of timeline. My computer just runs out of steam once I start to record even basic animation, much less rendered animation.

So, before I plunk even more money down for computer upgrades - is there software out there commonly used to do technical animations?

Does solidworks support distributed rendering?

It doesn't appear to. I can find nothing in the help files which discusses it.
