Volvo issue - alternator?
I was driving home from work today, and as I was driving, I noticed that a couple of the warning lights had come on (ABS and power steering, IIRC); then the radio shut itself off, then the engine began to lose power. As I turned onto my street, the engine died. It would start with a jump-start, and run for a few minutes before displaying the same symptoms. After turning the engine off, it wouldn't start again without a jump start.
I am 90% sure it would be the alternator. Any contradictory opinions? |
I agree--same thing happened to my Volvo and it was the alternator. Same issue that I'm currently dealing with on my P-car.

Awesome - thanks for the reply. I suppose I'll just pull mine out and bring it down to AutoZone or PepBoys to get tested.

Could also be the fuel pump relay behind the center console. They are simple to replace, and are notorious for causing intermittent electrical loss and engine stalls.

Thanks, charles- I'll check that if I bring my alternator down to PepBoys to find it holds a charge fine. I might also replace the alternator brush - it's like an $8 part.
