2007, 16,000 miles. Has black cloth interior. Like new inside and out. Dealer is asking $24K which I know is way too high. What should I be offering?

I am actually surprised how they are holding their value.

I am seeing 17-24K with the low end being private party. If you can get your hands on a current black book that would be telling what they have in the FJ and what to offer.

Is it an Auto or 4x4? That will increase the value some as well. To be honest any 2007 with 16K miles better look brand new because it practically is.


I am willing to wait until the end of the summer until I make a move on one. Although I would love to get one sooner for trips to the beach.

Look in FJ Cruiser Forums in the classifieds as well, deals pop up from time to time you just have to move fast when they do.

I am pissed I sold mine now. I did not anticipate not needing my Tacoma and did not think through the fact I could use the FJ as a field vehicle when needed. I really did not think it through when I decided to sell it I am embarrassed I acted to hastily.

Jim, it is an automatic with 4x4. Has A-Trac and rear differential lock. Color is black cherry with roof rack and tow package.

How did you kids like the back seat. Doesn't appear to have any more room back there than my BMW 325 does!

You guys would get along, he and I both had 1st gen RX7's and were good friends with Steve Stander back in the day.

He also has a real nice 964.

Never a problem with back seat room, I have a 15 y/o and 5 y/o and there was plenty of back seat room for both. But, I am 5'8" and my 15 y/o is 5'9" he sat behind me and I would not have the seat very far back. Something to consider. I can only suggest taking the family down and everyone getting in.

The seating is taller, you sit higher up than you do in a BMW so your legs bend more, the FJ felt like it had more legroom in the back.

The suicide doors took some getting used to, if someone in the back seat had to get out you had to open the front door first.

Also keep in mind it requires Super Unleaded they tweeked the 4.0 6 cyl engine to get some more HP out of it and it requires super now.

As far as pricing goes, I have no idea. All you could do is low ball then walk. A quick scan of Autotrader shows about 40 for sale within 200 miles of you.

Put a good word in for me, if they get a trade that they want to flip out fast for a good deal I can shoot up cash in hand.

Kurt, keep in mind we did MANY road trips up to North Carolina and back to Florida 730 miles each way in the FJ, so if interior room was a huge issue there would have been a revolt.

Stomachmonkey: The FJ is just down the street from me. So very local.

Jim: I too am 5'8" as is my wife. Our daughter is 8 years old. I am used to the seating position as I presently have a 2002 Wrangler with a straight 6. Love the TJ, but would like more room behind the rear seat!

Although my daughter and I bought it together, I do get to drive it from time to time. One of the things I really like about the FJ are the various controls, a/c, etc.: They are huge, like reading the senior edition of the Readers Digest.

We run regualar gas in ours and have no issues. Still has plenty of power even though the computer is retarding the timing. I don't know, for around town with no load, regular seems fine. But, fuel economy suffers about two miles per gallon on the hwy according to my experience so maybe its false economy. Maybe I'll just shut up.

My FJ is silver- looks great in that color, IMHO. There is already a lot of silver on the FJ so you get more color coding!

FWIW, there has been a recall on the front brakes. Nothing serious, just loud squeaking when applying the brakes when backing up. I took mine in and got new rotors and pads for free!

Make sure you look under it to make sure everything is intact!

Took it home for the wife to check out. She normally likes SUV's but really did not like the FJ! Said it was too big. The more I drove it, the more I tended to agree with her!

My old 2003 4Runner had the same 4.0L V6, premium fuel "recommended" (not required). We tried both and tracked the mileage, typically 91 octane gave us a 2-3 MPG boost over 87 on the highway. That more than covers the cost difference. It's probably mental, but it seemed to run smoother as well. Except for our "experiment", we always ran premium.

You and I have had the same experience. With Costco down the street showing a $0.05 lower cost for premium than other fuel retailers, I guess we'll just use premium.

Just to concur with Kurt; the FJ seems big in person and when being driven. I don't understand why this is but I agree. The visibility (lack of) and very high beltline may add to the feeling of mass. Still a good rig if you off-road, ski, hunt.

I had a chance to drive a new FJ on Toyota's off-road test track at last year's auto show. Typical setup with off-camber turns, climb, decend, and broken up surface. The FJ was an auto. Very nice. I did note that you really sit deep in the FJ which gives the illusion you're in a bigger vehicle. This is contrasted by my wife's Land Rover Discovery which has low window sills and tall seating (to facilitate trail navigation).

Have you looked at Nissan Xterras at all? My wife insisted on a SUV with a manual transmission and we cross shopped the FJ, Xterra, and Wrangler but eventually ended up with a 2008 Xterra Off-Road model. In my opinion the interior quality and design of the Nissan is better. The Nissan also has more power and torque without the recommendation of premium fuel.

Hummers are cheap.......:D
