Another Persian

Bought this one just now...looks to be a good older Persian...the selverage is a bit frayed which is the thing to look for.. 4 X 6 and the price was right. I was the under bidder on the blue one next to it..it went for $464 plus shipping...it was older and looked to be in nicer shape.

This is a Hamden ZAGHEH in the Herati pattern. The teeth in the border pattern is the distinctive feature..."Quality is good, the yarn so so and the dye stuffs are suspect"

Hell Tabby, I thought you were starting a cat thread. No persian rugs in this house. Just Turkish ones that Evren & Ruki gave us. I wonder if they'd know anything about rugs?

That rug really ties the room together, does it not?

Not to be pedantic, but the town is called "Hamadan". I guess a Hamadan Zagheh comes from somewhere between Hamadan and Zagheh. Who knows? But the style is definitely Afghani rather than Persian—thus the referance to a "Herati" pattern—presumably.

I only know this because years ago, in another life, I met a Dutch girl in Herat who liked to stick her fingers in a dyke and knew a lot about carpets.

Of course, you do know where a statement like this will lead, correct? (Not that I will do the leading in this case). ;)

The Herati pattern is the Rossette in the center of a Diamond, with four Rossettes coming off the diamond. Zegheh is west of Hamaden and just east of the Kurdish tribal area.

My cats would love that!

Decent rug. Looks like it was incorrectly washed at some time. Got a picture of the other one ?
