best touchup paint

I'm looking for some brown touchup paint for a 1986 VW Vanagon.

It's a single stage - no clear over it and is a milk chocolate shade of brown -- The color is "Merian Brown"

I'll need a spray can full and some liquid in a small bottle or a "pen."

Background - I am a complete klutz with anything artistic & have no spray equipment...
I also want a durable finish so buying a spray can of something like Krylon - even in a similar shade - seems out of the question.

can I just go to a paint auto body supplier and ask for some from them?

what company made VW colors in 1986 (PPG?)

re: pens and liquid paint:
- Is that Dr. Color Chip stuff any good? The say it is easy to put on &

- the VW dealer can order a pen of the stuff -- I wonder if the pens work better than the little bottle brush things?

Any competent auto paint store should be able to match your actual, sunfaded color with the available computer paint matching programs. They put a little sensor on the paint to read the color, then the software selects base colors to mix into a match based on the optical reading, and prints out an ideal mix for the paint machine.

I have tried the doc color chip - not too impressed, GP white on my Carrera, your results may vary. (maybe I'm doing it wrong, the instructions make it look like a child could do it, and I don't have kids) Pens aren't any better... they sort of leave "glops"

Hey Webb, we need some pix of your latest acquisition - it has been the star of far too many of your threads lately. My imagination is feeble, I need visuals.

+1

GoWesty refers its customers to Paintscratch. I've used them and recommend them highly.

Thanks all!

Has anyone ever tried a comparison of "regular" touchup paint with that Dr. Color Chip stuff?

They claim it works better...
