Airbourne Perspective......
British carrier BMI Midlands today discovered that two of it's airliners ( that serve the UK-TelAviv route) had the state of Isreal removed from it's inflight display systems, in fact, neither TelAviv or Jerusalem showed on the maps or the city displays. The northern Jewish city of Haifa was shown, but was spelled as 'Khefa', the way it was spelled by the British Mandate just prior to Isreali independance in 1948.
The maps inflight also showed the constantly updated relative direction of Mecca.
The torrents of complaints were finally discovered to be caused by the fact that these two airliners had been recently added to the BMI fleet from a defunct Arab charter airline that had the inflight maps 'tailored' to it's clientel. And as only Murphy could arrange, these two planes were put on the TelAviv run.......
