Dang, Gotta miss a DE
I was supposed to go to a DE tomorrow as a student instructor under the PCA National Instructor Licensing training. It was all going to be about learning to be a more effective instructor. I missed out last year because there are only a few slots available each year.
Everything was fine until this week with the Swine Flu thing. There were two possible(upgraded to probable) cases of the Swine Flu at a local school and they closed the schools for the last two days until the CDC results come back. I figured no biggie since it wasn't my child's school and everybody is well. It all goes fine until tonight when my 2 year old went to sleep about 6 o'clock and woke up just after 9:30pm crying. He felt hot so I went to get the thermometer which I found out had been thrown away a while back when it quit working. I went and bought another one and he has 101.5 fever. If this flu thing wasn't around here I'd probably just go ahead and go since I feel fine. I REALLY do not want to be the guy that has a sick kid and then passes it around to other club members. I'm sure someone will probably say I'm overreacting along with the media. Maybe I am but my final decision was made by putting myself in my potential Mentor-Instructor's shoes. If the person sitting in my right seat had a sick child in the current environment would I want them in my car with me for hours? The answer was no so I guess I'm giving it up. I almost called our region president to let him know but it was already almost 11:00pm and those guys are planning on being at the track before 7:00am so I really didn't want to mess up his sleep. I'll let them know early in the morning. Any instructors in the Alabama/Georgia area want to take the national instructor school tomorrow? It just rots because there IS no good answer. Oh well. I guess it could be worse. Hopefully it will not be. Now to try to get my son well without getting sick myself.....

There will always be another DE and/or instructor school. You only have one 2 year old (unless you have twins).

Sorry to hear that, Rob. I heard they closed schools there (Heritage Elementary had a case?).
In the end, I think you're making the right decision. Most likely everything would be just fine, but the consequences otherwise would be bad. I'd go if I left right now and drove really, really fast... ![]()
