Crappy Paint messed up my day :(
 

So I'm getting the next house ready to move into; doing a full reno on it before moving in; floors, paint and some mods. I spend days getting the rooms all ready to paint with a rental pro sprayer and today was the day.... didn't go so well though?

First, used too much paint in the living room dining room area spraying the vaulted ceilings and then only had enough paint to paint half the walls.

Second, the master bedroom paint was filled with gunk; I screened it through pantyhose but only had enough to spray the ceilings, no walls. Over half the paint was this gunged up crap; likely froze at one point?

A good day, I would've had it all done. Now it's only half done and the crappy job of cleaning/prepping is the same. :mad:

Maybe something in your pantyhose set off a flash cure in the paint? Try a clean pair next time...

ummmmmmmmmmmmmmm I think I would be taking that back. I think you are right it may have been frozen.
If it makes ya feel any better, I hate to paint.

Why would you even attempt to salvage paint that was in that condition? You should have stopped right then and there and headed to the paint store. I know you live in Canada where it can get stupid cold but no paint store down here would let paint get into that condition. Maybe a new paint store is in order?

Damn, that's awful. I'd give the BM manager an earful for selling that crap.

I'm impressed that you got any paint out of that can at all. The only time I've seen paint like that is when I have a can left over and I want to retouch some area's. Usually, its been sitting for a couple of years and dried up.

They key word in this whole fiasco is "outlet".

Yes it was gods way of saying dont put that horrid color on the house.

Ha, no kidding, the thought crossed my mind... "stop", but the challenge was I'd already painted the RED living Rm & Dining Rm, cleaned the sprayer and then primed it with the BLUE! At that point the paint wasn't flowing properly (obviously), so I figured it needed a stir and opened up the can. (Lid has a small screw cap that the sprayer receiver arm fits into), then I discovered the crap!

At this point I could've just quit, gone and cleaned the sprayer and called it a day. BUT I rented the sprayer primarily to paint the vaulted ceilings in these 3 rooms, so I figured if I'd at least got the ceilings done I could roll the rest. So that's what I proceeded to do.

I got another bucket, some pantyhose and poured the crap in, then squeezed it with my hands (imagining that they were wrapped around my paint suppliers neck) and managed to squeeze out 2 gallons; enough to paint the bedroom ceiling. Oh joy.

Keep in mind, I'm a BIG customer, last year I built more homes in my Region than ANY other home builder! This is the crap service we get? To say the least, it's lucky I was alone, because I wasn't very good company at that point.

BTW, I hate painting!!!
It's worth the $8 or $10K you pay someone to do it......

Yes, making a move of only a few blocks..... bought a 7.5 acre development (future) property last year and I'm moving into the home there for a few years while the kids finish school.

The home is going to be knocked down when I develop the property.....

Ha, ha. You guys really like to stereo type me as the RE man 'eh? I'm a developer first and foremost, I just hated to pay Reelytors for selling my crap when I did most of the marketing anyway; so I became one myself. Funny thing happened though; as I applied my own thoughts and theories to RE marketing it grew in leaps and bounds to take me to the No.1 Realtor position in my entire Region; AND all in just a few months time!

I try to teach others how to do the same, but to this date NOT ONE other has listened to me? Ha, ha. What do I know? Seems Reelytors enjoy doing things the same 'o same 'o way...... my ways are more "business" minded. I treat my customers like I would treat myself or my best friend; pretty simple really; then I applied 25 years of RE development experience to the mix; Bingo.

Before I became a Realtor, I never really liked Realtors; go figure? Then I became one and now I really don't like them! ;) My fees are directly related to my business abilities; plain and simple. I'm not your average RE guy.

As for this home; what a story behind that one! I blame it all on my wife; more on that maybe another time? We are planning to live on this property for the next few years while I rezone it and get it approved for development. It's currently located in Agricultural zoning..... will prove to be very profitable once I'm done. So in the meantime, the existing home which is 3800 sqft with a pool, cabana and gorgeous setting was in some dire need of updating/renovating as it's over 30 years old. Now the home is going to be demolished when I do the sub-division!

So I told my wife (interior decorater) that she should do this house up decorating wise like something out of this world as 'resale' is not a challenge. Do something you'd never do in any other house.... so she came up with some crazy decorating ideas..... gonna be friggin' very cool; although I'm not involved one bit other than doing the work.

The house has some cool character and it's got exposed open beam designs in huge vaulted ceilings..... she's left all the exposed wood very dark, almost black and has some really cool ideas for the color palette which includes mustard, rouge, harvest green and blue. Here's the photo concept for the BLUE master bedroom, taken from HGTV's website last year for "sexy bedrooms". You'd think with 5 kids and 2 grand-kids she'd be done with those ideas, but NO; I guess I still got it guys!

She's doing the headboard, drapes, chandelier with a hardwood flooring. I just say "OK". She's happy AND a happy wife is a happy life. ;)

As for the kids, they're each doing their own rooms ANYWAY they like too..... one kid has red and purple the other is doing a palette of green and red.

I'll post some pics after we get 'er done.
Hopefully I'll never have to spray another ceiling in my life! Man I hate that job.

My Townhouse in San Diego was North/South Walls, Royal Blue, East West Walls, Baby-****-brown.

It sounds bad, but it worked.

I've owned this home since Christmas and I'm doing all the work myself, but now the house I'm living in is SOLD, so I gotta move in by June 1st.

The home is on 7.5 acres, right in town, fully serviced and next door to an elementary school, park and fields. It's a very popular sub-division of single family homes. I've started the rezoning process, but it'll take a few years to get it ready to develop. So I'm planning to live here until my youngest finishes high school or at least drives on her own. Then it's off to the lakehome year round :) Then I'll be knocking this house down to make room for the 50 new ones that I'll build :eek:

Oh yeah, paint supplier gave me back all my money for both colors and paid for the sprayer rental. So, whatyagonnado? stuff happens.

How'd you manage to spill so much paint on the floors? :cool:

Ha, ha. Yeah they're awfully red 'eh?

The house is over 30 years old and likely not cleaned often? I started to spray the ceilings and the flipping things were just showering down stipple and dust, so that's the fine particles of red you see spread over the entire floor. The "spills" was primarily when I snapped the sprayer off the line without releasing the pressure in the line first; my bad, paint shot all over.
