Outdoor Speakers

What is a good outdoor speaker? I need two for around $100.

I will be powering them with an Onkyo M-501, so they don't need to be great.

I plan on using a speaker selector to control the outside speakers.

How far can I run the speaker wire without having problems?

Thanks

I was amazed how far away from my amp I could run two Bose (101?) outdoor speakers by using 10 ga. wire. I would est they are approx 100-125 ft from the amp!

Bose are great, but likely over your budget?
Try whatever "Radioshack" is called; I bought a pair there once and they worked fine.
Enjoy

The nice thing about the outdoor Bose is that they are polypropylene and resistant to moisture - might save you money in the long run.

Also, have you considered remote/rf speakers. I here they are getting pretty good now!

The remote speakers I have seen plug into the headphone jack. With that set up I would not have music through the inside speakers.

I bought a pair of Cambridge Soundowrks a few yrs back on sale for $100, Sound great. I also have thier system in my hosue and you cant beat the set up. They are local to me so I went to the factory location a whole back to pick them up.

I found 4 of these JBLs on Craigslist for ~ $35.00. They're certainly not audiophile but they're fine for when I'm just flosting around the pool with a beer.

$100 a pair is tough price point to find quality sound outdoors. There is a lot of competing sound sources to muddy up the sound. My first set off the bay was a set of JBL for $125 from Harmon Karden ( they are the parent company of HK,JBL, and Infinity) These were good. Now for great. I highly recommend Paradigm speakers. More than you want to spend but wow are they great sounding. My furthest run is about 60 feet from my receiver using 14 gauge wire. If you are under powered on your receiver amps you can have issues as much as if you over power them.
