Turns out my "playa" rims are sweet Stroseks rims ($$$)!

To all those that were hatin on my bling bling playa rims, Privith on the other chat board found out they were expensive Strosek rims which means they are light alloys and NOT chrome plated iron/steel rims. I always thought they look AWESOME check this out:

I really like the look of the yellow cars rims...maybe I can paint the rims silver like this:

Here is how my ride looks now:

That's great if they're real. The $1,200 you say the PO paid for what I assume were then-new wheels, since you said you had a formal receipt, seems low for four genuine Stroseks.

Got a magnet?

True dat, Playa...and FWIW, there have been a lot of suggestions about swapping out your 2 litre VW motor for a 3.0 P-car motor. This is a very good (and expensive) idea.

Your current motor is actually a decent platform for upgrades. While it may not have the capabilities of a 3.0, you can actually get some pretty good ponies out of it while you save up the $$$ for a swap (if you eventually decide to go that route).

Check out some of the VW engine sites, particularly Samba.com. You could get some great ideas for your current powerplant.

what size are those? 18"? Im with Noah...whatever makes you happy. Its your car. However, I never really liked Chrome with White. So, the silver painted version would probably look better IMHO.

+1, very good point. A magnet should tell a lot about these rims. An actual dismount to search for the logo/stamp should confirm if they are real or knock-offs, as well.

Steel or iron would be unusual unless they happen to be stamped. But yes, not all alloys are light. (21-23 pounds is a pretty light wheel not counting the tire) Typically you are talking about a savings of 20 Pounds overall for a very light set of wheels compared to a heavier equivalent. The real concern with a fake wheel is whether or not it can be trusted.

hey playa, those chrome stroseks are lookin plenty photoshopped on that white hybrid of yours.

I figured the first playa thread was a set-up, this new one makes it official.

Did they hate on yo bling bling playa rims cos they ain't real Strosek rims or izzit cos them haters didn't like the way yo rimz is looking??
If it them (the haters) was hatin' the looks, them being Strosek rimz or not, ain't gonna make no difference then, izzit? (sorry, couldn't resist,)

What was not clear: that they were real deal Strosek or replicas? Or was it not clear what brand they were?
The design has Strosek written all over it.
If they're light alloys, the weight should be a good indicator. Even if you do not have a steel replica to compare, it shouldn't be difficult to tell whether they're light alloy or steel ones

And last but not least, if you think they're awesome, that's great, let the haters buy rims they like, who cares what they think.
