Swine Flu Virus Originates From U.S. Factory Farms

That's not what the guy who actually discovered the original virus said. He was on a television interview last night and stated, that while the factory farms have the greatest potential for spreading, they are 'biologically hardened" to prevent rapid spread of disease. This is in their best interest, and protects their product. He traced the original back to a pond with a lot of bird feces. His quote was that the FDA lacked funding to do much more than find the origin and monitor the progress of the virus, which died out for no aparent reason. Funding issues didn't allow him to pursue why it disappeard.

re 1998 - the virus has been circulating for some years.

i am not claiming to be an expert on this at all, but it was my understanding that most of the flu strains come about from migrating birds that infect pigs that then infect humans. is this not the case?
