Finally added a good inventory page to my site!

I have been working with pound interactive to add a functional HTML inventory page to my website. The flash looks good but doesn't leave much room for expansion and doesn't get picked up by search engines.

Opinions?

It's not linked to the flash site yet so you guys get the 1st glance. SmileWavy

My only comment - why only click the car title to go to its page? I clicked on the photo several times before I re-read the header. I think you should click on the car photo or title to see it's page. Also, a few more photos would help if you plan on selling many cars online. Too many photos is just right.

Otherwise it looks good, though I still think you should lose the flash on your main page. Did I mention that you have my dream job?;)

Looks good. I hate flash sites. KiSS is the best principal for a website IMO.

Weird, when I click on the photo it link me to the individual info. What browser are you using?

Thanks one, its my dream job too!

IE. Your header says, "Click on car name to see details". When I click on the name it works fine, just not the picture.

Terry, do you have a physical location?

Must be IE, I'm using Mozilla and it works either way.

Yes I have a lot with a 2000 SF warehouse and office. All cars are stored indoors, 90% are pre orders. Been doing about 5 cars a month lately, looking to push it up to 10 by the end of the year and hopefully 20 by the end of 2010.

We are working on a pretty cool sales package that offers all franchise dealer options + 10-20% off dealer cost. Its much more in depth but I don't want to give away too much until its released.

Are you planning to add prices? I would want to see those.

I hadn't decided yet. Since we locate cars for people if we don't have it in stock I didn't want to give a potential buyer a bad frame of reference. For example, if we are selling a based out G35 coupe online for $18,300, I don't want someone to think we can source them a loaded version for the same price. Seems silly and that some common sense would apply but you would be amazed at some of the extremely rich, non-rational people I have dealt with.

...but I like to see prices when I'm looking at a site.

onewhippedpuppy 05-05-2009 11:51 AM

I can't believe I missed the lack of prices..... If you want to sell cars via your website, put up prices. Based solely on principle I will not call dealers if they don't post prices. It seems like a shady dealer game, and I won't play.

However, if you want to post your cars on Autotrader (or similar) with prices, then link to your website for additional pics, no prices would be fine. That would also be a handy way to circumvent the stupid buyers looking at your webpage.

Understood, but for something like the mustang, that looks like it's for sale currently, I'd want to have an idea what you're asking.

I've been looking for a Miata, but I'm not quite ready to fly and drive 1600 miles...

Hearing you loud and clear. Prices added! :D

...and if your looking for a 07'-08' then shipping it to you can still save big but there is not enough spread on older vehicles.

Not sure if "Woman Driven" is really a USP.

Just makes me think of how MY wife drives.

Not a pretty picture.

On the cars that have been sold, clicking on the pic doesn't work, but clicking on the name does.

The ones still for sale, you can click on either.

Looks good - you might want to run a spell checker though.

I hate clicking on a small car lots "inventory" webpage, only to see that 90% of their supposed "inventory" is PAST inventory. It's a dead giveaway of a small time operator.

I understand why you would want to include the prior inventory, and I think it's ok to have a few "sold" cars shown, but the large majority of the "inventory" cars should be actual cars in inventory.

Will do, still in the testing phase of the programing.

Looks good Terry, glad you're enjoying your new career!

Link only worked for me on the name of car too, not the pic. It should be the entire square, title, pic and all. simple. I agree with adding prices. I agree that I don't like seeing sold items mixed with inventory items; have a recent sold page link for those that it may interest.

On the home page, the more info box didn't let me read the last line? I scrolled the drop down menu page to the bottom using the wand and it stopped me before all the script was shown? fyi.

I like the colors, nice and bright, very clean, very professional looking.
I don't like the contact page pic where a guy is standing with his arms crossed? Arms crossed means something wrong, or he's waiting, or impatient or an SOB? imo.

I agree using an html page for your interactive info; very important.
I don't like flash either; except for the first time I go there it's a drag waiting; maybe have an opt out button (skip intro)?

Make sure you plaster your website address everywhere...... especially auto trader! Get a tracker.

Also, on your contact page you've allowed for me only to use the info box to email you; you might want to display your email address too; that way if I want to email you from my outlook or ?/, I can. The way you have it set up a buyer can send you an email and screw up inputting his email address and then you've lost them? food for thought.

Thanks for asking Terry, good luck once again!

slodave 05-05-2009 11:17 PM

Can you make it auto fit screen sizes? My laptop is 1024x768 and I have to scroll to the right to see the page.

TerryBPP 05-06-2009 03:43 AM

Great feedback guys. I'm going to look into all of these issues.

911Rob 05-06-2009 05:12 PM

No troubles, you're a great guy Terry.
Best of luck, again!
