Beautiful '69 Z-28 for $3700 in Oregon
Well, supposedly in Oregon... keep reading. It's just another scammer. Wanna help me mess with him?
This appeared in our local classified ads on Friday: ![]() I emailed the guy last night around 11 P.M. (I almost asked him if the price was a typo, but decided not to): Re: your ad for '69 Camaro in "The State" paper: Please send more information about the Camaro you have for sale. His reply came fairly quickly (and notice he tells me basically nothing about the car, which is what I asked for, and even though 801 is a Utah area code, tells me he and the car are in Oregon): Hello, Sorry for the delayed response,I have been very busy. Anyway,I'm glad that you're interested in my car. The car is street legal and accurate and has US papers. . It comes with all the documents needed for registration, it has a clear title and it can be registered into your name at any time. I am willing to sell it for $3700.This buy now price does include the shipping and insurance fees. I'm located in , Oregon and the car is here as well and so this is where the car will be shipped from. I've done some research and the best and fastest way I can ship it is using DTD Transport takes between 5 to 6 days to arrive at your door (door to door handling and shipping insurance fee included). I am affiliated with Yahoo! Finance where I have a purchase protection account for $ 10,000.00. This service allows us to complete this transaction in a manner that is quick and safe for both of us. It acts as a third party between seller and buyer to insure that both parties comply to transaction requirements and provides dispute resolution and mediation between parties. Yahoo! Finance is responsible to insure that both parties comply to transaction requirements. If this is ok with you please reply with your complete name, address and shipping address in your next email and let me know if you are interested in knowing more details about this purchase so that I can open a transaction case at Yahoo! Finance and move forward with this deal. Thank you, William Goveia My reply: Please tell me about the car itself. Do you have any photos of the interior and engine? His reply(he included a lot of photos of a pristine '69 Z-28): Even I'm not good about cars, I'll try to describe the car the best way I can. It has no scratches, no damages, no hidden defects. It is in immaculate condition and has never been involved in any accident. The mileage is accurate. The engine runs good, the paint looks new ( as you can see from the pictures ), garage kept. 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 Miles: 73900 Body Type: Coupe Transmission: Manual Number of Doors: 2 Engine: 8 - Cyl. Interior: Black Warranty: No Title: Clear VIN Number: 124319L517024 Condition: Used Exterior: Blue Engine: 8 CYLINDERS Fuel Type: Gasoline All you have to pay for the car is $3700!The shipping it's only my responsibility and you don't have to pay for it even in case you will refuse the car !You'll have 72 hours for inspection and it's only your decision to keep the car or not!But I'm sure you'll love it! I must remind you that if we are going to have a transaction I will need your complete name and address to initiate a new transaction case at Yahoo! Finance, please provide me with your purchase & shipping details (name and address "shipping address aswell if different from your address"). After I receive your details I will initiate a new transaction case at Yahoo! Finance and they will contact you with the complete details of this transaction. Thank you! ![]() The original newspaper ad says white interior... here, he says black. Heh heh. Any of you guys in Oregon want to go take it for a test drive? I'm sure I can arrange it. ![]() Seriously, I know y'all can come up with some classic ideas on how to mess with this guy.

Tell him you'll write him a check for $13,700 if he'll write you a check back for $10,000.

That would work. L O L
I'm seriously hoping an Oregonian Pelicanite will step up as "a friend," not as my brother. I doubt the car is anything more than some photos he found somewhere on the net, but if I can email him asking for his address so my friend can come look at the car and drive it, maybe I can make him sweat a bit. With this being "interstate commerce," is there any way to get the FTC or Attorney General or somebody involved after we finish messing with him?

Yep, that would end it...if you get a real address, I'd be wary of getting mugged...but I doubt you'll get a real address.

If you ask to see it, you'll probably get a reply about how the car is crated for shipment and cannot be unpacked, but don't worry you get 10 days to inspect it upon delivery. That seems pretty standard for these guys. Is there a Nigerian scammer's handbook or something?

I like how "The car is street legal and accurate and has US papers. "
So, why, if you were just a Joe Blow with a car in Oregon with a f/s ad in a newspaper, would you need to say "US papers".

All these scammers word their responses in such ways that it is easy to tell something is wrong. People in this country just don't type like that. The english is all wrong. For example, the guy mentions "Yahoo! Finanace" multiple times. But he puts the exclamation point after Yahoo. Who the F does that? And who quotes stats on the car in that ebay-table/carfax style presentation. "ENGINE: 8 cylinders" Really? I thought it had 5.

The pictured car is pretty cherry.
Should be relatively simple to find it and the real owner.

I'm thinking about asking him what city/town he's in because I have a friend in Oregon who is willing to go look at the car for me and maybe arrange to have a mechanic look it over. If anyone has a better idea for the next step, just say so.

801 area code is in Utah however a lot of Nigerian scammers use that area code
Do a google on the area code then do one on the whole telephone number

I'm getting ready to send another email to him:
Please accept my apologies for the delay in replying. Thank you for the information and photos. Please provide a local Oregon address and phone number. I would like have a friend come to your home and inspect the car at your convenience.

That's okay...if he gives one close to me, I'll do a drive-by...(edit) Tho I'm sure there will be a "reason" given for why this cannot happen.

You likely won't get a response, unless you send another email saying "On second hand, the car looks great in the pictures and the price is great, so I don't need to have my friend come look. Let me know how you would like to proceed."
