Saw a C5 1962 retro Vette yesterday

Yesterday while driving down I-45 on my way home I saw what looked like a 1962 Vette with a late model very low angle windshield and convertible top and late model wheels. It looked amazing! If it hadn't been for the traffic where I was I would have tried to get a better look. But I found it online. Apparently it's an all new 1962-look custom-made body put on a late model C5 car. It looked really, REALLY sweet in person. I half expected to see ZZ-top standing in the middle of the freeway shooting a video. The pictures below don't begin to do the car justice.

Here's the folks that make them.

I think this is the one that I actually saw

Wow, love some parts, absolutely hate other parts.

Overall not a fan, lines and proportions are all outa whack, IMHO at least.

Apparently there is a link between the 'kit car' gene and the 'horrible taste in wheels' gene.

Hotter than anything on the road today, for any price, in my opinion.

I think those wheels are stock late model wheels.

Yeah, it's not that cool in pictures, but when I saw it in person (from 2 lanes over) it looked really amazing. Much, much cooler in person than in the pics. It took my brain a minute to comprehend the windshield and top on the early car body. It's reminds me of a chopped top except for a conv.

I'm sure it's not everyone's taste, but I thought it was one of the coolest looking vettes ever.

On a related note, last weekend at the Keels and Wheels Concours, I saw a few '57 vettes and some early 60's vettes (pre-'63) and a GrandSport.

I think my favorites are '56-'62.

I am $130k short right now plus the year and a half wait never works for me. I like IMMEDIATE gratification.
I think it looks good though.

The windsheild angle and wheels do not match the rest of the car.

rouxroux 05-07-2009 12:04 PM

I LIKEY!!!!!!

Yes, those are stock late wheels. Man, this looks MUCH better than the "50's based" retro-fit you usually see. Dang, I wish they had it for a C4 platform...I'd be all over that.

ProTeam is a very large reseller of classic 'Vettes. I wish them luck on this....(I guess I should try to trade my C4 for a C5 with a 'lil bodywork needed.

The windshield angle makes the car.

The rims look fine too.

Just more proof that no matter how perfect a masterpiece, SOMEONE will hate on it.

Agreed. Overall I find it to be awkward, especially for $130k.

These cars make me laugh out loud when I see them in person. $100,000+ for a used 1998-2004 Vette with a body kit what a joke.

fastfredracing 05-07-2009 02:49 PM

Yeah, I dont think that will ever grow on me. Its too much of a hodge podge of different year cars. Its got the early 60's front, and the 63 and later rear treatment, just too much going on there, the lines are all way out of whack. For 130 grand, I would buy a Z06, and a mid 60's vette.
Besides, Pro Team is one of those places that sells ratty vettes for huge money. I had two customers buy cars from them ( this was over 10 years ago) and both of them way overpaid, and got cars with tons of issues. But I think back in the day , pro team had their own financing, and nearly anyone could buy into one of their easy payment plans.

uh....no!

Why, yes!

Old body style, new parts. I like it!

I don't think its value will plummet like a stone the way a $100,000+ Z06 might.

UconnTim97 05-07-2009 03:52 PM

I like it, but I would like it a little more sidewall on the tires to fill out the wheel well.

Other than that, it is too skinny and has small breasts.

Actually, no, it's got a 1962 front end, and a 1962 rear end.

Real '62 Vettes

I saw one in a showroom in Germany.

It looked cheap. Like a kit car. And very awkward somehow. The proportions just aren't right—it's far too large.

And the interior is particularly nasty.

There was one similar at a cars and coffee I went to a few months agohttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1241750180.jpg
