Chuck Norris is so fast he can run around the world and punch himself in the back of the head.
|
Yeah, but Bruce Lee was so fast, he could make two laps and be waiting to open up a can of whupass on Chuck as soon as he finished his little one lap plus head kick trick.

Bruce Lee Facts/Feats
Bruce's striking speed from 3 feet away was five hundredths of a second. Bruce once caved in a protective headgear made from heavy steel rods, rods that had previously withstood several blows from a sledgehammer. Chuck Norris - "Lee, pound for pound, might well have been one of the strongest men in the world, and certainly one of the quickest." Joe Lewis - "Bruce was incredibly strong for his size. He could take a 75lb barbell and from a standing position with the barbell held flush against his chest, he could slowly stick his arms out, lock them and hold the barbell there for 20 seconds, that's pretty damn tough for a guy who at the time only weighed 138lbs. I know 200lb weight lifters who can't do that." Wally Jay - "I last saw Bruce after he moved from Culver City to Bel Air. He had a big heavy bag hanging out on his patio. It weighed 300lbs. I could hardly move it at all. Bruce said to me "Hey, Wally, watch this" and he jumped back and kicked it and this monster of a heavy bag went up to the ceiling, Thump!!! And came back down. I still can't believe the power that guy had." Jesse Glover - "The power that Lee was capable of instantly generating was absolutely frightening to his fellow martial artists, especially his sparring partners, and his speed was equally intimidating. We timed him with an electric timer once, and Bruce's quickest movements were around five hundredths of a second, his slowest were around eight hundredths. This was punching from a relaxed position with his hands down at his sides from a distance between 18-24 inches. Not only was he amazingly quick, but he could read you too. He could pick up on small subtle things that you were getting ready to do and then he'd just shut you down." Hayward Nishioka - "Bruce had this trademark "One Inch Punch", he could send individuals (Some of whom outweighed him by over 100lbs) flying through the air where they'd crash to the ground 15 feet away. I remember getting knocked up against the wall by that punch. I didn't think it was possible that he could generate so much power in his punch, especially when he was just laying his hand against my chest, he just twitched a bit and Wham!!!, I went flying backward and bounced off a wall. I took him very seriously after that." More: http://www.bruceleedivinewind.com/feats.html |

Bruce Lee is an inspiration to me. He believed in full contact fighting, dismissing forms, katas, and point fighting. His style, JKD, is an ecclectic blend of various styles using what works best for the individual. He is the grandfather of MMA, but during his lifetime the idea was not accepted. Being a full contact fighter myself, I hold Bruce in my top 5 people who I would like to meet if given the opportunity. I don't believe in all that "chi" mumbo jumbo. I believe it is an attempt to mystify sub-par fighting skills, David

there's a documentary of Bruce Lee , about JKD , around on bittorent
narrated by Dan Innosanto, with stock footage...about JKD and how he trained... including that heavy bag mentioned in this thread... jeetkunedo.avi pretty cool stuff |

It is the force supposedly at play in all the soft styles. Tai Chi, Pa Qua, Yin Yang, etc. It is supposedly what lets a 70 yo little old wizened tai chi master throw a man twice his size 20 feet with the slightest of movement. Me, i don't know personally, but Bruce believed it was real. |

Blindfolded. |
That is called "sticky hands" from Wing Chun Kung Fu. It is one of the few styles that Bruce studied, David

I heard that when Bruce tried to hit someone, the noise from his fist breaking the sound barrier would knock his opponent down before the punch would.
If Bruce lived up to 1/10th of his own hype and self-generated publicity, I'd have some respect for his skills. As it is he was a celebrity, an urban myth. Nothing wrong with that, but it ISN'T REAL. He hyped himself really well and made allot of money because of it. So did the governator but you don't see me going around saying that Conan the barbarian was the toughest fighter of all time. How about Rambo? He'd kick Bruce lee's butt with a 50 caliber machine gun under each arm. Now Mr. T, that was one tough guy. I saw him in the "A" team on TV so it has to be real. Bruce's reputation is no more realistic than the silly Chuck Norris stuff. BTW, superman wears Chuck Norris jammies ;) |

The only thing I could add to the debate is that in Dan Inosanto's book, he says that Bruce Lee did talk somewhat dismissively about 'Chi, meditation and internal training. However, halfway down the page of his daily to-do list was an entry entitled "mental cultivation". So I think Bruce Lee was very aware of the "internal" aspects of martial art but didn't want people to think of it as separate from the "external". Sorry I don't have any new, insider info on this for you. Regards, Dwight Woods" http://en.allexperts.com/q/Martial-Arts-3210/Bruce-Lee-chi.htm I've read a few books on Bruce too, though it was a very long time ago. |

I don't think there is any mystical power -- that doesn't mean we understand everything. I don't know what sammy's problem is, but yes, he is dead wrong about that. People who knew Bruce Lee, or knew his students well, think extremely highly of him. BTW - some of you will be interested that there is a movie on Ip Man coming out -- it is available in China, but I don't think it will be released here until they get the sub-titles worked out better than they are now |
