Signs your neighbor is into child porn
1. State, federal, and local authorities coordinate a 2 month long investigation culminating in the arrest of him and 10 others in your state for using a file sharing service to share something like 14,000 images and videos of child pornography.
2. See #1 WTF! One of these people lives in my neighborhood. I don't know him and am not sure who he is, but I know which house it is and I think it's a family with kids. Talk about lives being ruined!

A couple of years ago one of my wife's coworkers husbands got busted for taking inappropriate pictures of his son and a friend.
Lucky for the guy, he is good friends with the editor of the local newspaper. He ended up getting released on some technicality, and the local paper basically made it sound like it was all a big misunderstanding and he was totally innocent all along. (Not true, the pictures do exist and were used as evidence in the trial.) The parents got divorced while the guy was in jail, and now the son is being forced by court order to visit his dad--something he absolutely does not want to do. Pretty sad if you ask me.

Lots of whackos out there. If you're in California, check out this site. You have to sign/checkmark a disclaimer, then you can search your zip code. Don't matter where you live, there are sickos just around corner.

When I was growing up, we lived on top of a hill and a couple of properties down the ridge was a guy with a few hundred foot tall radio tower. You could see it from much of the central Connecticut valley. Apparently all of the local police departments used it as a repeater station. His niece used to play in the band with me.
One day there were police cars all over the property. It turns out he was the central figure in an international child porn distribution ring. If I remember correctly, he was using the SW radio network to aid in the distribution. By the way, this was back before the Internet. You never know where these creeps are going to turn up. They could be a bass player your favorite rock group or a member of your Veteran's association. Both have happened in the last few years. If you've got kids -- be on guard!

Didn't Pete Townsend get busted for something like this about seven yrs. or so ago?
I have a bit of a problem with the nat. sex offender registry. Some 18 yr. old guy who's banging his 17 yr. old girfriend does not belong on there. I have zero sympathy for the true child predators and believe there is no reforming them. They need to be castrated or killed, not set free and put on a website. There are, however, a lot of bogus crimes that can land you on that registry. I grew up in NJ and our then local Congressman, Dick Zimmer, was the chief sponsor of Megan's Law. I remember more than one case where people on that registry were violently attacked in their own homes by vigilantes, out for justice. However, some of those folks were not the right person and these vigilantes beat up an innocent person. Also seems to me that folks who copped a plea before Megan's Law was passed should not be subject to it, since it's additional punishment that was not law at the time they agreed to a plea deal. Again, I'm very hardcore, almost medieval, in how harshly I want the real child predators to be handled. But this nat. registry ain't the way to go about it.

The "sexting" situation, where kids take pictures of each other and send them by cellphone is, by statute, child pornography. The KIDS involved are guilty of distribution of Child Porn. And one of the punishments is...being put on the sex offenders registry.

The california one I posted lists the lastest photo and exact crime for which the perp was convicted. I didn't see any pissing crimes. "Lewd acts with child under 14" seemed way too popular.

Those kids need some kind of punishment, but the sex offender registry is waaaayyy excessive. I'm shopping for a house right now and if I look up a street where I want to buy and see someone who has multiple priors with young kids and a violent rap sheet, well, I'd be concerned about that. If I saw some 16 yr. old on the registry for sexting, I'd not think twice about it, other than feel sorry for that kid's life being ruined over something so trivial.

Rick makes a good case. Here in Oregon, a kid just turned 18 was arrested for banging his 17 year old girlfriend. Angry mom turned him in right after his birthday.
Now...get this...the grand jury refused to indict, but a zealous D.A. called him in, got him to sign up for a plea deal. Some 6 weeks later, a guy on the grand jury noticed that the kid was in jail, went screaming to a judge who let the kid loose. Yet...he's still a "registered pedophile"...

No child pornography was found on any of his computers, but he did agree to register for 5 years to settle the matter quickly. People close to the story tend to feel that he was "railroaded".

My wife was a girl scout leader for many years. I sometimes drove kids home. I was never, ever allowed to be driving alone with someone else's little girl; a girl scout rule, and a good one.

I don't know of anyone whom I know or suspect to be into kiddie porn. But my guess is such people are child molesters or pedophiles in the waiting, sort of like kids who torture animals often grow up to be violent criminals.
The kinds who need to killed are those like Richard Allen Davis, the guy who killed Polly Klaas. Or Cooey, the guy who killed that girl in FL. There are countless thousands just like those guys wandering the streets. They cannot be reformed. I will never understand why any of those folks ever get out of prison. It's a 100% guarantee they'll re-offend and someone's kid will be next. The other stuff like sexting or statuatory rape is a bit more gray. I don't think we need mandatory minimums and a nat. registry for these folks. Each case is different and a lot folks who get prosecuted under these laws are not dangerous ever....until they've been in prison a while. How about that Mary Kay Latourneau? Talk about a MILF who was willing to do seven years for her lover and then married him when she got out. Bizarre story there.
