Do 5 year olds EVER quit talking?

My God, our 5 year old talks constantly!!!

Most days aren't so bad as I dig answering his questions and helping him understand things but lately it's been just question after question about everything under the sun.

Do bats bite? Do bats drink blood? Do you drink blood? Does Mommy drink blood?

Does Sarah drink blood? Can we watch shark videos? Is the sun still up? how come the sun is still up/ How come I can't see it? Will the bats be out tonight? canwelook for them in front?

these were rattled off in the last 10 minutes as I started writing this post.

I'm just ranting a bit. I love my kids and are thankful that they are healthy.

At least the dog isn't barking right now.

get him a subscription to Playboy

peppy 05-16-2009 04:24 PM

Wayne, enjoy it.:D

Danimal16 05-16-2009 04:25 PM

Wayne,

Enjoy as it will be gone before you know it. You are a lucky man.

Sounds to me that he knows that his dad is SMART and has all the answers and loves him. Hang tough and good luck.

Thanks for the support, guys.

We are having a Daddy/Jacob day tomorrow as my wife and daughter are heading to a baby shower on the East side of Michigan.

We are going to take the 911 for a drive and have lunch.

I know the day will come when they no longer want/need to talk to us or at least not as much. :(

HardDrive 05-16-2009 04:32 PM

LOL!!!!

Wayne my friend, I am right there with you. My 5 year old NEVER stops talking. I must admit, I get irritated at times. Especially when she asks the same question 3 times in the same day.

I have been told to enjoy it while it lasts, because by the time they are in 5rd grade, their too cool to talk to mom and dad.

Paul K 05-16-2009 04:33 PM

Before you know it, it will be all you can do to get him to talk to you!

LOL.... I have a 4 year and it's the same thing.
When he doesn't have anything to say, he says "poopie". Now his 2 year old sister says it too.

My wife and I are crying right now! We wonder the same thing about our 6 yr old.

wcc 05-16-2009 05:23 PM

My son is 5 (almost 6) and he isn't talkative much. Really laid back and just goes with it. Me, the wife, and him can be all quiet and kinda do our own things but it's my daughter (3 almost 4) that's the talkative one. SHE WON'T QUIT! She just talks and talks and talks. Even when no one is talking with or to her. She is like having 10 kids alone! My son is fun to take fishing/hunting because he's quiet the majority of the time. He's even shushed me on the fishing boat because he said me talking will scare away the fish!!

Enjoy it, time does go by so fast.............. :(

EDIT: Oh, and quit watching the vampire movies! LOL!!!!!

syncroid 05-16-2009 05:27 PM

Enjoy it while you can. My daughter is 10 and still inquisitive. Just be there for them. It will be worth it in the long run.

Fret not! As it is apparent that his Dad is grooming him for those future engine drops. You wait, you and your son are going to be the envy of the neighborhood. I already envy you.;)

Oh and when you are old, you will be the one that does all the talking, mark my words. Life is beautiful.

I would love to have those days back. I, too, was almost out of my mind with the constant chatter. I took the time to answer all of their questions and give them the time they needed. Heck, I read to them every night until the were 10 (mind you they are 4 years apart).
Anyway...it has reaped me many rewards as they still come to me for answers to any and all questions they have as they move through life.

Indeed the time goes way too quickly, but if you take the time now....you will be a rich man.

wcc 05-16-2009 06:09 PM

Probably, but she isn't. If we had her first we probably wouldn't have had a second. Well maybe, but I doubt it. I just attribute it to being a girl. Girls like to talk, have more issues, moody, etc. Boys just kinda go with it...

Mine are the exact opposite. Now, anyways....

Porsche-O-Phile 05-16-2009 06:47 PM

Just answer like this:

Do bats bite?
Yes, but only 5-year-olds'

Do bats drink blood?
Yes, but only 5-year-olds'

Do you drink blood?
Sometimes.

Does Mommy drink blood?
Sometimes, but less often than I do

Does Sarah drink blood?
Yes.

Can we watch shark videos?
In a little while.

Is the sun still up?
Look outside and tell me.

how come the sun is still up
Because they haven't come to take it away yet.

How come I can't see it?
Because your eyes are closed.

Will the bats be out tonight?
Yep, and they'll be looking for YOU.

can we look for them in front?
sure.

;)

Have some fun with it.
