I just mowed my lawn...

...and completely dominated the process from beginning to end. My lawn didn't stand a chance. The mower fired right up. I started, per usual, on the parkway. All of my turns throughout were stellar. Reach the end of a row, lift, twist, mower back down, continue. 10 out of 10, every time. The grace and ease at which I navigated around the trees should be on ESPN Classic. As I finished, I glanced at my gutters, overflowing with leaves. They started to weep. I cracked a barely visible smile as I strutted to the garage to fetch my ladder.

Doesn't it feel good to conquer the lawn?

I do the same thing. Get it done and just kind of survey the landscape, admiring the work.

I hand picked several dandelions yesterday and thought to myself " well, you sonsof*****es aren't coming backk!!"

Sweet.

One of the most stisfying things you can do.

Jim Richards 05-17-2009 06:54 AM

What is this thing you call "mowed my lawn?"

gassy 05-17-2009 06:56 AM

It's a proletariat thing Jim. Carry on.
:D

At the same time the dandelion is thinking "I already spread 400 seeds over the lawn b!tch!"

maybe so, but I'm watchin' em.

I've got my eyes on the moles as well.

Jim--Mowing the lawn is kind of a big deal here in the north. You either shovel the driveway or mow the grass.

The first cut of the season is an occasion.

Nathans_Dad 05-17-2009 07:21 AM

LOL, go get em cowboy!!!

Schrup 05-17-2009 07:26 AM

I dropped my Cal-trimmer off with Santa Claus to get the blades sharpened yesterday. Apparently he runs a lawn mower repair shop in the off season.

I'm planning on letting most of my lawn die...

Ha, I just mowed my lawn on Friday...... for the very first time!
It took me 3.5 hours!

I'm just moving into a house that I bought last year; it's 7.5 acres with huge lawns.
My kids had a camping party there this weekend (its our May long weekend) and I promised them I'd cut the lawns for them. First time using the ride 'em lawn mower that came with the place.

My wife said I looked very happy; ha. Shoulda been a farmer?

Buckterrier 05-17-2009 09:08 AM

Grass and more grass, about 2/3 of my lawn. When I was a kid I always wanted a nice lawn. Be careful of what you wish for!!! This monster takes close to 2 hours to mow and this time of year that's twice a week. But as said above it's nice to sit back and admire afterwards.

That's not a lawn Mark. That's a field.
;)

Cheers Buddy!

Wow! That's one heck of a lawn.

I was out at 6 this morning weed wacking on my slopes for about 3 hours. It's going to be 100 today, so that's it for today. Got about 10% of it done. Boots, jeans, t-shirt, hat, safety glasses, dust mask, ipod and Echo string cutter. Oh, and lots of water. Not my favorite task, but last year I was out of town for a month and it had to be done. Cost me $2,100 to have someone do it. Do it myself when I can.

The boy and I just worked over our lawn. I also had to do the yearly sprinkler maintenance.

Haven't watered it in a while and it was getting a little dry...

Hoot! Stubborness here...refuse to buy a riding mower to do my small by comparison, 20,000 sq. ft. lawn. So, 21" self propelled walk behind. Plan on doing so this afternoon in 85 degrees heat. I worked long and hard for that fatal heart attack, and I deserve it! Two to three hours should do it...

Joeaksa 05-17-2009 12:04 PM

Cactus and rocks are kinda hard to mow, so I leave mine alone most of the time.

Tim Hancock 05-17-2009 02:36 PM

I hate mowing, but thus far my hodge/podge of mowers are all working as they should. The runway (about 5 acres) takes me about 1 3/4 hrs with the 1941 Ford 9n and tow behind mower (about 10' swath). The yard (about 4 acres) takes about 2 1/2 hours with a 60" riding mower depending whether my wife or daughters are doing it.

Yes, come in wide... Clip the apex... Come on the gas evenly and hold a line. The grass didn't stand a chance.

Hugh, in New Zealand we have sheep everywhere. We don't have $2,100 situations ;)

Ah, yes, and those sprawling Hollywood mansions - they would make an excellent sheep farms too.

My son-in-law claims he can mow & edge his 4 acres of grass in about an hour & a half. He uses a ride-um for the edging . . . he bought the tractor & mower at auction for a pittance.
