How about a Dodge pulling a Land Cruiser with 25 feet of chain and a boat behind the Land Cruiser.

It was longer than the semis, and definitely wasn't the brightest idea in the world. 150 miles later we were home.

Couldn't you have double up the chain to where you just had 12.5 feet?

Sure is. I'm trying to avoid the little buggers I just want to make it through the course at a reasonable time today. Going real fast will be some other time

That's the right attitude for a beginner... accuracy and technique first, increase your speed as you are able. Maintain smoothness as a goal. Be a ninja. Hahaha.

Have you attended any local SCCA "autocross help days?" You will learn a lot to help you lower your times... how to tinker with your tire pressures, etc.

Havent done anything with the SCCA yet. I just turned 18 last month. Right now I only have enough weekends available to run with the PCA. Kinda sorta in the hunt for another car because I know it wont be long before I need to start upgrading stuff and I dont want to disable the 944 as a good street car. missed a good 914 for 500 last week.

You can have a lot of fun and cut a lot off your times without doing a lot of upgrading and changing, so don't get trapped into the mindset/trap that you have to mod the car to make autocrossing worth your time.

Thanks for the link. I am really fortunate that the local PCA region has lots of guys that can drive and that are willing to give pointers when needed. I was sitting at the start line one run and the starter comes up and is like you dont need to get on the brakes until a certain point. The few little tips he gave me gained me 4 seconds that run.

It was at a small town auction that had had it for close to 2 months. In OK there are very few suckers willing to buy old porsches.

I intended to drive it up but it is close to 1.5 hrs away and my dad can't ride comfortably in the 944. He volunteered to tow it with his truck and trailer. Also serves as insurance. As long as there is a sure way home the darn thing won't break.
