24 hour deal... Tag F1 Alarm $449

I have a love hate relationship the ChronoShark. Every day I get an e-mail with a watch that's heavily discounted and the deal is only good for 24 hours. Today's deal is on a Tag... this is very tempting. If it was a chrono instead of an alarm I think I'd be caving...

Pretty cool. I have a vintage T/H from the early '80s. They're cool when they run correctly. Mine didn't for a long time.

Then I discovered G-Shock.

The only thing I have purchased from them was a watch winder that was on their 24 hour deal. The model I bought normally sells for $65 on various web sites. I paid $32. I had no problems with the order.

They have a positive rating here...

I always thought that you couldn't purchase Tags online through authorized dealers, only grey market, which I imagine would make servicing difficult.

I've heard the same...

I'm in this dilemma right now over a Tag. It's my understanding that service isn't a problem because it's still a Tag with a serial number. The problem is the two years of warranty is not through Tag, it's through the online company.

What I've found online is that gray-market watches are due to minimum wholesale dealer requirements. They have to buy a certain dollar amount of merchandise to become a dealer. If they don't have enough legitimate retail dealer sales they have to get rid of the inventory somehow so they sell it out the back door.

My thinking is if Tag or whatever watch company didn't want gray-market watches, they wouldn't require such large wholesale purchases.
