It doesn't! Started 12 years ago for me and will only end when I die finally.
Good luck to you!

Yes. It ends. It all ends. I find the deeper your pockets are or the better your health insurance is, the more MRI's, PET's, x-rays, blood tests, CT scans, PT sessions, EKG's, sonograms, echoes, injections, pills, poultices, and bloodlettings there are. But it all ends one way or the other.

I've been asking myself the same question lately. MRI then the injection at L3. Painless for about a week, now the compression has kicked back in w/pain down both legs today? wtf? Back to the clinic next week and then another needle? Will I end up calling the md that did the discectomy at C6-7 or just hire Dr. Jack to do the job?

Your not having the best of days here recently. Time for ya to quit screwing around and get better! How are the first things coming along? The leg and finger?

Yes, that I know, I was a 133lbs until my mid 20s when I was diagnosed asthma and they put me on massive steroids and with in a few years I steadily blimped out, even though I have continued to exercise
Even when I stopped drinking, it didn't help, as long as I'm stuck on meds, I'm screwed. I have tried some of the natural stuff, but no luck... One reason I'm trying to ride my bikes more, my skste boards & just walk, to maintain a strong body, not get soft and hooked on tthe crap the Docs have me on..

perhaps you need a change of venue, dryer climate might help you out with the respiratory stuff, steroids are freakin' nasty stuff

My back problems are essentially 99% cleared up, and I have two badly ruptured disks (I believe its L1/L2).

1) I lost weight

2) I went to physical therapy, then kept doing the stretching exercises. Most are simple yoga moves really.

3) I got my core strength up.

4) I stopped doing all high impact sports. Not tough for me because running was all I really had to give up.

Everyones back is different, but it works for me.

You need to run up to Colorado with the dry air, hang out, grill, drive, and then drink. Can't hurt. Probably time for a road trip anyway.

Byron,

Had much the same situation except it was with taking Celebrex for a neck injury (parachuting) years ago. It was the only thing that would allow me full range of motion.

Had a friend clue me into the fact that it causes you to gain massive amounts of weight. Started taking it one day a week and have now shed 22 pounds, making a big difference in my life. Now working on a second 20 pounds trying to get back to where I am normally.

Might try a "maintenance dosage" (after talking with the Doc) and see if that helps.

If your having knee surgery on the 3rd, you better heal quick for the parade!

I hope to see ya at the Parade! I'm going to try and make it on June the 30th (Tues). Who knows, maybe I'll head up on Monday as well.

I think the weight loss / exercise advice is spot on.

Steroids don't help but in the end you put more calories in than you need and that's how you gain weight. Steroids do not contain any calories.

The real issue is gaining weight slowly: a pound every quarter, 4 pounds a year, 80 pounds in 20 years ...

A pound of fat is only 3600 calories. This means if you gain a pound every quarter, you ate 3600 calories too many in about 100 days. That is 40 calories a day. You only have to cut out 1-2 beers a week or exercise for 5 more minutes a day to maintain your weight ...

Every year I age I have to up the exercise and cut back on the calories. Somehow the body just doesn't burn what it used to, even at the same activity level ... I watch my weight, and if it goes up more than 3 pounds, I take action and change my lifestyle to rebalance my exercise / food intake and shed the weight.

Since you are seeing the quacks frequently anyway, I recommend you make an appointment with a nutritionist and see how they can help.

George
