Anybody got hit by a Stingray?
...and not the car. I'm spending the week down on the gulf coast of Florida. I took a stingray hit last night while collecting shells. If you haven't been speared by one of these badboys, you're NOT missing out. It felt like lightning going through my body, my foot swelled up, and it turned numb/hot.
I ended up pulling the barb out of my foot once I swam back to shore. That being said, the venom-induced pain is gone, but now it's just extremely sore and swollen. OUCH! |
You lucked out...a sting over the heart is what killed the Aussie croc guy...

I usually stick to getting stung by jellyfish. Gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling.
How big was the ray? JR |
No idea on the size of the ray...the barb remnant that I yanked out of my foot was about 2 inches long.
Definitely got lucky and learned my lesson btw, the oddest part of the experience was when my heart slowed down, I got dizzy, and felt like I was going to throw up. Good times! |
I got stung while surfing, long ago. Due to swelling I had to wear flip flops for close to 4 months. It was one of the most painful experiences I have ever had.

I've been in the water with them many times in the past, but never stung???

You were probably smart and shuffled your feet. In my impetuous movement, I stomped right on him!

You will be wanting some antibiotics with that, augmentin if not allergic to penicillin as I recall, maybe cipro or levaquin, would have to look it up, not a lot of sting rays in the Sacramento Valley |
