New computer monitor, everything is short and fat

Wisecracks aside, is there any way to adjust the monitor so that people and items don't look so squat?

It's an 18 inch wide, 10 inch tall Dell.

Am I stuck with this format?

TIA

Right click on the desktop, select properties, select the settings tab. Adjust the screen resolution until things are normal. Read what the recommended screen setting is for the monitor and see if the video card supports it - via the first step.

Cool. Back to normal.

Thanks Dave.

Ditto.

I can set it to get the proper proportions, but then I lose the effect of the large screen. They used to say the camera added ten pounds. With the new flat screens, it's more like thirty. Even Gweneth Paltrow looks fat (oh wait, I was watching Shallow Hal.)
