Appreciation to all for the wonderful thoughts.

However, special thanks to nostatic,POP and Porsche4life. I took their suggestion and on Monday went to the movies to see "UP". I never thought a computer generated movie could exoke emotion like that movie can.

In a nutshell, the writers nailed it describing what it is like to lose that very special person. Although it deals with loss, it also shown hope as well, and sometimes in an extremely humorous way.

I was very moved (to tears, actually) when the hero of the story is sitting in the waiting area of the hospital and the Doctor comes out shaking his head. Our hero is holding a balloon, differing from me simply in that aspect. I had that rose.

There is much in the movie that borders on the "metaphysical", so to speak, with a lot of symbolism. The line at the end: "It was only a house" speaks volumes, as do the pictures in the scrapbook; that scene without a single word spoken. In fact, the most moving parts of the film are virtually silent, relying on the visual impact.

If you have experienced a loss or know someone who has, this is a "must see" film.

money, i didnt know you had such a tragedy. i had no response, i was stunned. i cannot do a decent job of stringing a bunch of words together to express my feelings.

i will watch the movie this weekend.

It'a amazing how cinema, the spoken and written word can bring comfort and healing when other avenues seem to come up short. Hang in there Bob and positive vibes sent your way.

My daughter saw it last night and was effusive with her praise.

Great to hear, Bob. It isn't the first time I've shed a tear at a Pixar film, and I figured it would speak directly to you first in terms of sorrow, but then in terms of hope and how we continue on. I was especially struck when the hero looks through the scrapbook at the end and sees what was added by his wife before she passed.

Art can provide amazing solace and help us locate strength we didn't know existed. Keep on keepin' on...

My wife just lost her oldest brother to a sudden heart attack two weeks ago. He wasn't in good health, but still a shocker. Due to this thread, I will break from my usual "evade the theater at all costs and wait for the DVD" and take her to see this movie. She is taking the loss pretty hard as is one her younger brothers. Maybe I can get her side of the family to go.

I look forward to seeing it. Being an animated movie, I wasn't involved with it, but I'm glad you all liked it. Bob, I'll think of you and my family members that have passed when I watch it.

Movies used to do that. Now, it takes an animated movie. Well, if that's the best medium, then I'm for it. But, I've never seen the full length of an animated movie. I wanted to see the one about cars, but never did.

Sometimes just knowing you aren't alone in how you feel, speaks to your heart more than any words can. Even if the other person happens to be a cartoon.

Wow, the only pixar movie that has made me cry. I can't believe it's been two years. Stay strong!:)

Milt, I remember taking my son to see Cars when it first came out, and I enjoyed it quite a bit (likely more than he did at the time.)

He went to see Up with a schoolmate today and enjoyed it as well. I missed it, but I definitely plan to watch it myself as soon as I get a chance. These modern creations -- especially but not only the work of the Pixar team -- are by no means only for kids or even actually targeted exclusively at kids. Not many 7 year olds can drive themselves to the theater and fork-out $10 without mom or dad :)

It is very good. Almost brought a tear to my eye and I havent really been through anything like that.


Milt- Go watch this and then rent Cars. Literally some of the best movies made right now. Pixar is like the Porsche of the animation world

fwiw Pixar makes great movies that just happen to be animated. The writing is excellent, the colors are chosen with care, strong aesthetic, and they follow Walt Disney's credo of, "for every laugh, a tear."

The movie UP brought many people together for a beautiful little girl's last wish. Pixar really came through just in time. Tragically, she died only a few hours after seeing the movie.
