I go there regularly beuase I love Miatas, always have. Cars for gays, no way. If you've never driven one, do yourself a favor and try it. The things feel like they're doing 60 in the turns when you're really only going half that speed.

Anyway, I've never been close to getting banned here. None of my posts have ever been deleted and before our mods will do something like that, they'll usually give a strong warning - a virtual stinkeye, if you will. Over there, several of my posts have been deleted w/o notification. They just disappear without a trace. No explanation from the mods, no nothing. I used colorful language that you hear regularly on primetime TV but on Miata.net, they're taboo.

Miatas are cars for gays? Well, the mods over there are perpetuating that image. Our PPOT and its mods are the best around. My virtual home away from IRL home.

ya they seemed to be a little strongarmed over there, I don't really read them at all, except for the autocross section occasionally since the rest of the forum seems to be a little... basic in it's content.

Haven't been there but agree Pelican is well run. Particularly when you consider the strong personality types that can be attracted to Porsches.

I considered a Miata some time ago but will admit the stigma was a bit tough to get past. Having seen several now at autocrosses and race tracks I'm happy to say i am completely over that. now it's just a funds thing. too many toys and have a baby on the way so.....something would have to give.

Considering most of us could sell our cars for enough (even in this market) to fund a cheap Miata, trailer, fit out and even more it's tempting..... You watch a miata blasting around the track in person and you realize those things are hauling ass and the guy driving is a happy ass mofo. every bit as happy as the guy behind him in the $30k 911. not to mention the Miata guy probably doesn't lay awake at night worrying about protecting his paint and what would happen to the body work if he suddenly finds himself mowing the grass.

Gay? Psha, those guys are racing. Maybe gay is sitting in a lawnchair behind your car at a show and talking about what a great race car the 911 is without ever having experienced it yourself.

Up until a year or so ago I participated in the Orange County PCA autocross events.
Someone decided to invite the local miata club to join in to reduce costs, what a mistake.

Talk about a bunch of squid cone killers. Revving the engines to redline and sidestepping the clutches on every single launch, even after a couple of them broke parts.
Half the cones were missing by the end of the day because they'd been dragged away to another part of the course, we needed allot more corner workers as usual. These guys were totally out of control and most were not fast.
A guy in a 5000 lb. turbo cayenne showed up one time and was faster than just about all the miatas ;)
coincidentally that's about the same time I lost interest.

If they were indicative of all miata owners (and I'm not suggesting for certain they are), I want no part of them, their cars, or their forum.

VWVortex is also a nanny state and you really have to watch your mouth there. Not sure why.

Sammy that's interesting. i wonder if somebody who is killing several cones on every single run could be asked to leave? you don't want to discourage somebody who is really trying to learn but somebody who is just trying to recreate a dukes of hazard scene is a danger to everyone particularly the course workers.

I was just a participant/part time instructor and a volunteer to help set up the course, take it down, and corner work so I wasn't running the show. Not my call.
There were several squids that were pulled aside and warned, not sure if any were ever really spanked.

I know it's a PITA to set up an event and I never want to make it harder or discourage those who are willing to put in their time for free. That makes me a little reluctant to complain to them.

I remember one time we had a AX at irwindale that was part of that Dub thing. lots of folks were running, very few were showing up to do their corner work. I ended up working the course for at least 6 hours that day to cover for those who wouldn't do their part.
15 minutes of actual run time and one heck of a sunburn.
When it was time to collect the cones and clean up, the usual 10 or 12 of us were there helping but the other 30 or 40 drivers seemed to have conveniently disappeared.
I didn't complain that time because it wasn't the organizer's fault. He was calling for the run groups to corner work, they just weren't reporting. Some people later said they couldn't hear the loudspeaker because of the clowns with their ghetto stereos and subwoofers blasting in the pit area. That's a whole nother ding against the miata group.

I just kind of lost interest and stopped showing up. Part of it was the miatas, part of it was changing of venues, part of it was because I just didn't feel like doing it anymore. Putting in a very long day so others could play.

I was looking at taking the next step to doing more DEs and TTs but haven't got into that either lately.
Maybe just burned out?

there was a 400+ HP turbo'd miata at a DE, blowing EVERYTHING off the track.

have you seen the 60's VW bus that catches and passes i think it was a porsche GT2 ?

check the mercedes forum. i got a BIG laugh over there. you can see those guys have too much money. do a search on CIS and read that stuff. not to say there are not smart guys there, just that it seems like porsche guys are more in touch with their cars.

The fastest slow car I ever drove was a salvage title 85 scirocco. it had been stolen and returned TWICE. Everything was broken. I got up to 30mph and felt like I was going 150. The test drive ended when the car died. We had to push it all the way back to the seller's house. The one positive thing I learned was that those are VERY light cars- even pushing uphill wasn't too bad.

We had a 94 Miata that we did some suspension work on and added a rollbar (tightned up the body nicely) Great car, lots of fun banging it around on the way to work. Just looked like a clown car with my 6-4 self in it

Miata.net - I like that forum. They have a lot of respect for Porsche owners and their cars.

The Miata - still a car I'd one day like to own; even more than other convertibles like the BMW and the S2000.

+1 here too. Actually, I tried to buy a copy from him and have him sign it, but he refused and just mailed it to me, signed. That's the kind of guy Todd is and the kind of moderator we have who makes this such a great board.

His book is quite good, too, btw.

I posted over there that I was looking for a Miata. Some guy told me that if I really wanted a fast car I should get a Porsche...

Needless to say I passed.

Anyway, I like that forum, but I still think Pelican is SO much better. Just compare the O/T threads on both forums...

Used to hang there when I had a Miata. Never noticed posts disappearing.

They do not allow political, off-topic, etc. at all.

Had a black 94 'R' Package (bilsteins, springs, swaybars, air dams, spoiler). Big black wheels. Never got the ghey thing.

It was fun as heck to drive, but the p-car bug reared it's head.

Wouldn't the best of both worlds entail having both the Miata and the Porsche?

Yes Miata.net is pretty strict...

It depends on the admin, some are more strict than others

the dutch Porsche forums are the same, got kicked on one before because i told the moderator to quit messing with my posts..

i reply , dude, you probably need to recheck what you need, because of this and that , i think you need that part, not the one you describe
