well, my wife and i adopted a new cat...new cat/old cat tips?

no name yet. but she was a few days from a quiet exit at the local pound. she is super friendly, and immediately scratched at the two scratch post we have. tiny girl cat.

introductions with the older cat is nerve racking. my wife's old cat is a beaotch! we are keeping them separated for the time being. any tips? she just got fixed, and doesnt even act fazed. she is not scared of us at all, and has really taken to the wife (cat whisperer)

Vets sell a scent thing called Fell-away (phonetic spelling). Evidently it makes cats more accepting of the newbie. Cats have a better sense of smell than a bloodhound...it's just that you can't train them to track.

But keep in mind..cats ARE like women. The ones already there resent it when you bring a new one home.

After our move south they have at least accepted each others existance , but they don't like to be next to each other unless it's feeding time

1st. take the old cat

2nd. add scotch tape to old cats paws (underside.)

3rd. place more scotch tape on forehead of the same cat.

4th. place said cat on the floor.

Old cat will entertain you for hours, and you'll forget about new cat/old cat issues

you're welcome!

Before Fell-away, we tried that...only not tuna...old spice, trying to make them both smell the same. It kinda worked...

Put the new cat in a room by itself...door closed. They will both approach the door and sniff away. Keep this up for a week or so then try letting them together when you are there to supervise and put out fires, as it were. Told all my clients that...seemed to work best. Never heard the tuna oil trick.

been there and done this.....unless the older cat acted totally crazy... id just let them go and be with each other...within 2 days they will get used to each other...within a week, they will be laying on each other sleeping... when i did this...my two cats ended up being total pals, it just took a few days.

I had a similar situation, we ended up putting their food bowls in either side of a closed door, so as they ate they smelled each other. One of my cats had a pretty nasty attitude, but they ended up getting along pretty well after a week or two.
