Best place to sell a GT500
My brother passed away a year ago. Christmas 2007 his wife bought him a 2007 Shelby GT500. Beautiful car, 6 speed, 500+ HP. Dash piece signed by Carroll Shelby. My brother became ill not long after he got it, and consequently it only has 2600 miles on it. It's been garage kept and babied.
The market for these, of course, is not good. Dealers have unsold 08's still on their lots. Price looks like approx $38-40K. Aside from the obvious (ebay etc) anyone have any good ideas how I can maximize the return for my sister-on-law? And info would be greatly appreciated.

Just a thought as it has to be better than e-bay or craigslist have you considered Meacum's?

I see cars on consignment with this place. I can't really say how much you can get for a car like this, but the owner is a straight shooter. If you contact them talk to Mark LaMaskin. He knows his mustangs.

Sorry to hear about your brother. Sounds like he had a great wife as well as brother.
Ford will buy it back if you needed to move it quick.

Most people on these forums that want one, have one. But it's free and worth a try. BTW, brand new ones can be had for under $40K From the forum (like his): "I am thinking about selling my 2007 shelby gt500. It is white with vista blue stripes. Has satellite radio and the shelby gt500 premium upgrade package. The car is completely in the wrapper from the manuals to the floorboards. Car has only 1,000 miles on it and is always garage kept. Pictures available if necessary, but the car is honestly showroom new. Never driven in the rain or bad weather. The price is $36,000. My email is...." Sell it fast, like in the next four weeks. You will see a decline after the Fourth of July. $35-36K is the money E |

Thanks for all the input - I appreciate it.
Hold on to your hats - she paid 75K. That's some premium.

Yep, they were insanely expensive new. On the other hand, not your typical Mustang, is it? I said "mighty quick" before...actually, they are quicker than that!

Now in 993 land ...
|
I remember you mentioning the sad story before. Sorry about your brother and the fact that he got the car a little late to enjoy to the fullest.
I would put the car on Ebay. Brace yourself for a bunch of morons bidding on it, but Ebay still is a good place to advertise, even if you sell off the site. 75k was a ton of money for that car. It is too bad not more can be recovered after such short time. I would love to own that car, but I would worry about further price decline and having to sell the 993 (only way I could make it happen). Good Luck! George |

Well, his final 2600 miles were in that car. His wife should feel very good about that. Sorry for your loss.

I wish I could say he loved that car. He definitely loved his wife deeply, and had a few enjoyable drives in the Shelby. But he smoked - a lot - which is what killed him. But he wouldn't smoke in the Shelby, so consequently he didn't rack up very many miles in it. He was a great guy, and while the sharp pain from losing him has pretty much receded, I will always feel like a part of me is missing due to his passing. He was the typical So Cal boy next door. Born in 51, paper route, girls started chasing him in Jr High, first car was a 57 Chevy purchased in 1968 with a 'vette motor. At one time he had a 65 Mustang (but just the anemic 6 cyl) He was constantly replacing the clutch in it cuz it had big tires and a three speed that he did his best to grenade. (I was under that car with him in 1969 when my our mother called us in to watch the live feed of Armstrong stepping on to the moon.) He lived a decent and honorable life, raising 4 children along the way. Helped the family in a big way to take care of our aged parents. No one is perfect, and he was no exception, but a better brother/son/father you'd be hard pressed to find. The Chevy: ![]() The Shelby: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() She made him walk all over the neighborhood to find clues to his "present" BTW - sorry for the diversion. It just seemed like the thread was heading this way...

David--
NO DIVERSION. It is things like you wrote that makes this site more worthwhile. Otherwise it is just cars and parts and the story here is what separates this from being "just another newish Shelby" to being a special car. Great story. Sad, damn right... but what a neat story about your brother, his special wife, and a neat car... and that made it significant. If I were selling it I think I would include a write up with this story. I would NOT include a link. Anyone who reads it might think "I'll wait till after July". BUT the story is neat, touching, and explains why it isn't something run hard and put away due to disinterest. You absolutely want to include the new car sticker info with that. Man, that is a terrible hit.... but, actually not much worse than most new GT2 owners, etc. take when they resell their "investments". Mainly, a wonderful story about how this came to be. Thanks for sharing it with us. Believe me, I am gonna forward it to my brother as a reminder. Last comment.. I can't help but wonder if he still had the '57 if it wouldn't be worth about the same! Life gets silly sometimes. Best JohnRice |

Couldn't agree more with the above. David, best wishes with the sale. Guys, don't let your prejudices fool you...this is a very special mustang. The story makes it even more so.

Nice story. The market is what it is unfortunately. I don't see these coming around anytime soon, so I would sell it now while it is still new in years and take the loss. I know its not great news, but the market is stagnant. I only see the cars value declining, especially once it gets out of this relatively "new" phase. I wish you the best of luck and hopefully a quick sell.

are all of the dashes on those cars signed by Carroll himself?
Maybe that would add a premium at an auction. BTW I'm sorry for the loss of your brother
