Boy did I dodge a bullet!
Just got off work less than an hour ago. I take freeways the whole way home. Anyway, I was just cruising about 75, windows down sunroof open enjoying the evening air. Then I see a pair of headlights come up fast behind me, so just for kicks I give the guy a run for his money and kick the speed up a few notches. I wasn't swerving through lanes, just going faster than everyone else. I keep an eye on that car behind me trying to keep up. After a little over a mile I get out of the fast lane to let the car pass me. It was a CHP in a charger. WHOOPS! I can hear him over his loudspeaker "I clocked you going 95! Slow down." Then he just drove off. I usually can tell when a regular cruiser is behind me because of the shape of the headlights, but this charger threw me off. That could have been really embarassing if he pulled me over. I can just imagine the faces of everybody else on the road seeing me speeding with this guy on my tail.

the new chargers and stuff throw me off but i can see a crown vic from a mile away... just know who your racing next time lol
|
Yup, you lucked out. I'd like to think he was hurrying on a call...
|
what freeway and where please!
|
Cheers!

Wow, it was your lucky day:eek:
NC is using Charges marked & unmarked along with the unmarked Malibu and Explorers. No speed cameras yet... |
There ought to be a constitutional amendment stating all law enforcement cars be exactly the same year, make, model, be marked and have roof lights. :D
Lady luck was on your side. |
I'd be embarassed to admit that a Charger could keep up with me. ;)
|
try overtaking a cop car at 230 kph... then see if you are as lucky as i was :D

Around here the LEOs drive Chargers, Camaros, Explorers, Mustangs.... Dang near everything. |
One of my rules of highway driving- a car coming fast up your 6 should always be considered a trooper. If not you'll have someone to chase and take the lazer or microwave hit first.
Next time you decide to have fun like that, it would be better to let the guy try to shake you. Same thrill just different order. |
This should be rule #1,2 and 3, the bible, the ultimate answer...I never deviate from this one...

Back in the '70's I got nailed in Alabama by a trooper driving a gray Javelin...(Not sure if it was an AMX or not)....Had the big blue State seals on the door...Was pretty impressive. Texas also has (had) some pretty quick notchback Mustangs.

He must have seen the look on your face! I know if it were me I would have that "Oh $**T" or "oh I am soooooo stupid" look. Ya gotta admit that there are just days when we win one, even when we probably shouldn't. That is a funny story.

many yrs ago.(HS)
in my hot little Chevelle .. it's late..nobody out.. except that car way ahead... running up on him fast.. ready to zooooooooom by.. when he turned on his lights.. what's your hurry son.. Rika |
Theoretically he could have nailed you will exhibition of speed, competition, etc. Basically street racing. Potential loss of license, huge fines, even loss of car.
Good lesson for all of us (especially those in So Cal) we aren't kids. Racing or competing in cars on the street is a big ole no-no. There have been so many honda-driving spiked haired punks get killed street racing that they have really clamped down hard and now treat it like it's mass murder or something. Just like DUI, they have gone way overboard on the punishment for street racing due to publicity and politics. |

Thread title--Boy, did I DODGE a bullet!
Nice one, Sir.:D |
Lets see, driving a red Porsche, racing a cop, and getting away with it,
Did you buy a lotto ticket? |
Thanks for the heads up about non crown vics in so cal. Maybe there should be a law that LEO's are only allowed to use Crown vics Matt.
