"Important Privacy Choice for California Consumers"

If your mail looks like ours, you get these notices from everyone that, bills us, insures us, owes us, credits us, licenses us, etc. Basically, from every business that deals with us.

It's the notice to opt out of "sharing personal and financial with companies they do business with". They expect us to fill out these forms, sign them, install the stamp, and mail it to halt what should already be illegal. They sell our info, so others can spam us.

Our lawmakers have this completely ass-backwards. It's damn obvious we should be out automatically and the choice should be to opt in if we desire more junk in our mailboxes.

Rant/off

I believe CA is an "opt in" state for most of this stuff. You have to explicitly sign up or agree to the sharing of information in order for companies to do so.

Now of course whether or not companies actually do this is another discussion entirely...

if junkmail was removed, do you think that would be the last nail in the USPS's coffin? i heard that the mass mailers are a huge part of their business.

just wondering.

Try telling your local Post Office that you no longer wish to receive any mail that is not specifically addressed to you. No more "current resident" or other such mass mailing nonsense. The Post Office's answer will be a flat "no". I tried this several years ago (at the height of the mailed virus and poison scare), citing "security concerns". I didn't want mail from anyone who didn't address it to me. They flat refused. They told me bulk mail is their lifeblood.
