iPhone jailbreak and tethering
Anyone do this yet?
Curious about it in general. I have looked at this article too: http://lifehacker.com/5086490/the-best-way-to-tether-your-iphone-to-your-laptop-for-free I hate telcos. |
There is a new article in MacWorld about doing this. Makes me want an iphone.

I'm waiting to jailbreak mine until after the new software comes out, but once I do, I plan on tethering quite a bit (I travel a lot)
I'm wondering what ATT will think, they get pissy about the 10-12gb's of data per month I use now, I can only imagine the whiny ***** they'll spew when that quadruples. |
I use pdanet and it works flawlessly.

I mean the dataplan is unlimited (sans roaming of course) so really what can they do or say? I really hate telcos... |
Hmm this interests me as well. Can a jailbreak be reveresed?
|
OK, how does one jailbreak and iphone?
|
I've done that to my G1 (Google Phone) on T-Mobile. The G1, once "unlocked" can also be used on ATT.
My G1 will actually act as a WiFi tether. Meaning, the phone will create a WiFi adhoc connection with the PC and then allow surfing the web through the phone's data connection. It's pretty sweet. The G1 kicks azz! :D |

I'm interested in tethering too. Would allow me to drop my VZ EVDO. But I don't use that much data. Appx 300MB/day but I travel less than 10 days/month. |

I have Wunder Radio on quite a bit, watch a ton of youtube/AP videos and use it to browse forums and such significantly more than I use my laptop.
They tried to pass off a 9.99 service charge on me right after the 3G came out with some line about extreme usage and covering higher expenses..............YAWN. I asked where that was in the contract and that took care of the problemd |
Thats the funny thing about "unlimited" when used by Telco's and ISP's.
It's only unlimited until they determine that you are using more than they want you to then they either try to hit you with a surcharge or throttle you back. |
I know of several people who have found out the real definition of unlimited from their home providers when running a business out of the home and using large amounts of data.

what the heck are youse guys talking about?
