$863.10 for BMW 325 oil change?

Yup.
That's what the wife just paid the BMW dealership for an oil change.
Nothing else was done.

Crap.

My wife had her front struts and control arms replaced on her car for that price...

Have you gone down there to deal with this highway robbery?

Your wife just got ripped off. Send her back to see the Service manager or the owner of the dealership. A 325 is an extremely easy car to change the oil on. Hell the oil filter is up on top. Parts and oil to do it yourself run about $50.

The oil change was only $50. The balance ($813.10) was for the espresso, pastries, flat-screen TV, leather couches and marble in the waiting room...

Please scan the bill, redact your personal information and post it here. We can make it viral on the Internet in a day. The dealership will be pleading for mercy.

That's unbelievable. Yeah, dealers are going to rape and pillage, but that's beyond the pale.

I agree, scan and post that invoice.

I just can't believe the invoice is going to only say "Change oil and filter - $853.10"

I just don't think a dealership could get away with that for long. That would be theft, literally.

I would go to the dealership and tell them I was going to stop payment unless they could justify it.

I would make the wife pay off the angst in the bedroom......great excuse to try something you always wanted!

Silver lining.....

She accepted the bill and paid it?

Did she make any fuss at all?

Sucks cause they have the car and won't release it till the bill is paid but I still would have raised holy hell.

You're in Vancouver right? The BMW dealers here are all criminals. Ask me how I know.

Misplaced decimal point? $86.31 would still be high, but not outrageous for 7 qts of synthetic/labor/disposal fees/ and filter.

I still can't understand why anyone goes to a stealer for an oil change. It will never make any sense to me. My 993 oil changes are somewhat involved with two filters and more than twice the oil in a BMW and I can DIY them for about $75.

6 quarts of Mobil1 0W40 BMW approved oil sells for about $40. The filter insert about $5.00. It should have been billed for no more than 1 hr of labor....so that's a heck of a labor charge if that's all they performed.

Next time your wife should call you from the dealer (or store) to get a reality check before paying. I'd be pretty upset with my wife if she agreed to that charge....but then she hasn't had to worry about any maintenance on any of her cars since we met.

If it's really was just an oil change, I'd take the bill back to the dealer and without letting them know your wife was just in, ask them how much for an oil change. Howmany hours of labor? Then slap the bill on the counter. If you aren't satisfied after....send a letter with a copy of the bill to BMWNA. BMWNA seems to be very customer friendly and had done a lot of things for customers on faith...

I remember the old Jaguar grease oil and filter was about a 3 hour job, I remember we had to remove the headlights for some reason, but it was all part of the service, not just an oil change.

I got half way through a fuel filter change in my 993 at a PCA tech session and realized I had brought a new large oil filter instead of a new fuel filter. It was a Sunday, but the shop owner sold me a new Mahle fuel filter for something like $19. Two days later someone posted on Dorkiphus asking if he got fleeced. Same car, same fuel filter, same shop.....$54. It's true that a lot of shops have different prices for different customers. But I can't see how a stealer could be off by that much.
