The verge of extinction?
Sometimes the ability of a cartoonist to put a drawing to paper and then add just the perfect brevity of biting wit is a thing of beauty.
I would submit that the current cover of the Economist meets that criteria. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1244842998.jpg |
Spot on!

That's pretty cool. Not what is happening but the cartoonists interpretation.

Its upper Jaw is a Ford F150, not really a good representation of Detroits failures, yes?

The F150 has been successful in terms of sales to date but honestly I think it represents very short-term thinking. The demand for pick-em-up trucks in the USA has been driven in large part by the housing bubble (everyone and their brother becoming "fix-up guys" and "flippers"). Everyone who'd ever swung a hammer in their life was hanging out shingles as a residential subcontractor and needed a pick-em-up truck to complete the image. A big part of the sales right there.
Not saying they're bad trucks necessarily, just representative of a product propped up by artificially inflated demand. No construction = no work = no demand for pickups. Not much anyway. The F150's best days (sales-wise) are very likely behind it although there will always be a niche market for fleet vehicles and the like (think DPW trucks, etc.) |
I am either LMAO @ Detroit or so sad @ their stupidity
They stood up for the hand out and handed in their ownership to the would be helper. Where did the Govt get the LOOT ? Where did I say I want to be a Socialist . If Govt makes cars as well as instructions...maybe they will give up ...? |
