father in law moving to hospice

My FIL has been battling cancer for a while now and yesterday my wife and I learned he's being moved to hospice for the final stages . I have always had a good relationship with him and this final stage makes me sad. I have known him for 33 years and he's always treated me well. We live in Florida and he lives in N.Y. and we see each other once a year as we normally go up north in the summer. My wife and I are going to see him next week for two weeks for what I assume will be the final time we see him alive. I have lost both my parents to cancer and now the FIL. This sucks.

Go in peace. Think if there is anything that will make him really happy (a special meal from a special place he can't get to anymore... even if it's only warm when it arrives, some movies, etc).

You just being there will help him with the fear that he must be going through.

I went through this with my grandfather a little over 3 years ago, We had him live with us, while hospice helped for the last few weeks. Spend as much time with him and reminisce and tell him how much he means to you and your family. God bless...

What a crazy day today was. My wife received a call from the hospital at noon that her dad was not doing well and he wouldn't make it thru the weekend. We started making some phone calls to other relatives to make sure everyone knew. At 3;00 we received the call that he was gone . We could not believe how quick this happened but at least he didn't suffer too long. Please toast a cold one to Harry Z, a great father in law that will be missed.

Wow, I'm sorry for your loss and not being able to get up to see him again, but I'm actually happy for him. If you've got to go from cancer, I would think that the faster, the better. Like you said, minimal suffering...

To Harry Z, salute. In memory of Arden.

man!!! this is bad news. my dad really fought it, and prolonged the suffering. i even have some strange phobias from the entire ordeal. may your FIL rest in peace.

if this happens to me, i want to go fast...real fast.
