Looking for a resort between Seattle and Vancouver
We'd like to spend 4 or 5 days (July 14th) in a resort type accomodation somewhere in between Vancouver and Seattle after returning from a week in Whistler.
Possible candidates are the Semiahmoo and Sandcastle just across the border and the Ocean Promenade in White Rock. Family of 5 so we need a two bedroom type suite ar appartment. Any suggestions or tips? |
Rosario Resort in the San Juans. Super place,
On Orcas Island, take the ferry from Anacortes http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1245002954.jpg |
What a coincidence, I was just looking at this place. I was a bit surprised there were no reviews on tripadvisor. As it turns out they only accept groups or weedings. They offer accomodatiob in http://www.orcassuites.com/ or http://www.rosarioresort.com/residences.htm
Do you happen to know any of these? Tx |

Ocean Promenade is on a nice part of White Rock beach, and its a nice, reasonably priced hotel with suites. But the area can be pretty crowded, and the Sandpiper Pub next door attracts a lot of bikers & such. Nothing to be worried about as it is a completely safe area, but just be prepared to see the "old school White Rock crowd" on and around the patio on sunny days. I've heard that Semiahmoo is pretty nice, but it's isolated on a peninsula, so it might seem a bit confined. Birch Bay is a quaint little town, and seems to me like a quieter version of White Rock. You might also want to check some places a bit further south like Whidby Island. The natural landscape in those parts is pretty awesome. PM me if you have any other questions. |
Ditto on the San Juan Islands....Have stayed at Rosario, had a room with the balcony right over the water...nice area to spend a day or 2 sight seeing and hiking..if in the mid summer you can stop by the sido O the road and pick Blackberries...
At an antique store on ORca Island I found a nice 4 volume set of Thomas Jefferson Works, 1st ed published in 1826. For $75.00.... I would move on up to Victoria for a day or 2 of sight seeing...Buchardt Gardens is magnificient..go real early in the mornining before the crowds start to arrive... Craigarcoh Castle is a neat old house to see...Then there is the Antique and Auction houses down on Fort Street...have scored several nice items outa there...Lot of Brit retired military have settled there. and the HIgh Tea at what the he11 is th name of that hotel again..it is a famous Canadian Pacific Hotel right in town.....no blue jeans allowed...for $15 or so you can sit in the lounge sip tea and eat finger sandiwichs just like the queen... Make sure to plan on a Sunday Brunch at THE OLD ENGLISH INN...it a big ole house in the residental district that has been turned into a small hotel with a nice dining room on the first floor. The Beligan Waffles, omlets, steak and Kidney pie, roast beef remolade salad, tisamaru, Scalloped potatos, Choclate Log cake, limeade/apple juice combo is ALLL KILLER...I remember that meal from more than 10 years ago...how is that one for sticking in ones memory... If in Vancouver...ya gotta try Chinese food..it is the best this side of Hong Kong...as so many have emigrated to VanCouver from HK. Whistler this time O year is relativily cheap as compared to the winter...not crowded but in my eeys still an expensive tourist trap. The idea is to take a day ride up the road 50 miles or so...I mean you see no one on the road and the scenery is breath taking. |

If you look at the design and construction of the house it is based upon the deck and topside cabins of a ship..Copper roof, the windows and doors are those that would have been placed on a ship..very heavy and thick glass. In the basment is a salt water pool...ON the far left is a later addition to the house after it was turned into a resort..... |
More B&B than resort...but worth checking out.
Owned by friends of ours...Mike & Robin...wear the kids out on mountain bikes. ;) http://www.mackayeharborinn.com/ |
We didn't stay in the suites, I think it was the Bayside rooms, not bad prices up till May 26 or so. Then?? this was from our room.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1245007678.jpg Nobody stays in the white building, the original house, it is shops and dinning, bars, spas. Y9u stay in the outer buildings on the hillside, no problem getting around. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1245007739.jpg |
Tx for the feedback guys. I got a very decent deal at the Semiahmoo (119 usd) which I couldn't refuse really. Tx again.
