SolidWorks/ProE
 

What would you say the cross-over/transition period would be to move from SolidWorks to ProE.

I have almost 10 years experience working with SolidWorks, Cosmos, and PDM. I feel pretty confident I could become productive within ProE in a matter of weeks.

Anyone have real world experience with both of these programs?

I've used Unigraphics softwares for nearly 5 years now (Ideas 12, then UGS NX3, 4, 5,...) and had to work some things in Solidworks, found solidworks incredibly dumbed down. Solidworks and NX work off the same parasolid codebase, so the functions of how parts are created from solids are the same.

ProE on the other hand is parametric, but goes about it differently. I used ProE wildfire 3.0 for a short time and found that I could model things OK, but if I had NX I could do it 3 times quicker. I found Pro E to be frustrating with the creation of datums and operations needing to be performed at off-axis angles. It just too many button clicks, you know? You are going to probably have a hard time unlocking the more complex operations as I believe a lot of the options are hidden (unlike UGS NX, where you can enable it to show you everything ... or nothing, depending on your user level).

For someone used to solid modelling softwares, the switch shouldn't take long however. Less than a month I'd say?
