Throwback to the 80's...I worked as a tech in the campus computer store and we had tremendous (almost daily) issues with viruses and worms with the Mac's and UNIX machines. Almost zero with the PC's. This was clearly due in part to relatively low installed-base of PC's in the university environment, and lack of ubiquitous networking.
Over the last 20 years I have worked with machines of all flavors continuously and have had an actual virus infection (on an XP laptop) exactly once. A lot of it is hype and common sense precautions go a long way. |
This thread has been extremely helpful for me. What does the Pelican braintrust NOT know?
Kim's on to me --- she figured it out. Between telling her NOT to read anything on Pelican for the remainder of this week (wasn't there a thread about that here recently???) and me telling her the item is returnable (without a restocking fee), she knows... D'oh! I'm such a blabber-mouth!!!! ;) -Z-man. |
I'm sure she appreciates it none the less.

Apple is awesome, unless you're a huge dork and have been up and waiting nearly 12 hours for a freaking phone os

go through all the posts and change "apple laptop" to "hoover upright:. |
Quick update: I gave her the laptop on her birthday, and the price was a bit steep for her. So we switched it for a different model - a MacBook Pro with a 13 inch screen - 2.26Ghz intel duo core processor, 160GB hard drive, 2GB of ram. It was about 1/2 the cost of what I had originally purchased.
She's happy - and the original monster MacBook was indeed overkill for what she needs. Thanks again for the advise! -Z-man. |
