You still haven't given a reason WHY you want one

I don't have a reason. I don't need most of the things I have. this is the same way. No reason at all to have it. Just to satisfy a want. I have NO military background whatsoever. In my honest opinion a SMG would be a bad choice for home or self defense. I'll take the 12 gauge for that. I have fired a few SMG's in the past and would like to own one. LOOKING at a Mac 10 .45 and Suppressor. Ive had Mac's and Uzis in the past but all SEMI.

Another good point. Maybe its just a bad idea all together. That's why I asked. When I set my mind to something its very difficult for me to change it without good reason. I am getting some good reasons here.
When they do the back ground checks are they really that thorough?
How deep do they really dig? I mean if you were a bad person you wouldn't be trying to register the dam thing now would you?

More input please...positive or negative its all appreciated.

they dig all the wayyyyyyy back !

even with no misdemeanors or felonys like myself they can deny you on a whim or if their stool wasnt pointy at both ends when they crapped before werk.

honestly i actually thought of and may still do so, send a letter to shurf joe asking why i was denied my sign off. despite actually having the canceled check to prove it........... a donation to his re-election fund for $20 bucks.

in my case my FFL shoots professionally with this particular judge. the combat wombat club i belong to, head honcho is also an FFL and uses the judge to get sign offs. it is MORE COMMON TO BE DENIED than it is TO BE SIGNED OFF BY LEO!

my local town shurf who has authorization legally declined and i quote " i dont want to be held responsible for your actions". legally he would NOT be held responsible. and the kicker i know him/talk to him/joke with him blah blah. never been in front of him fer NOTHING!

so this is not a JOKE background check. if you were caught for anything, they will know about it. consider it a miltary background check akin to my secret clearance background check. if you screwed up..............they will know.

now the kicker to this is i have been approved by the FBI and AZDPS which takes uber precedence over the lokal yokal sheriffs office with my AZCCW.

so enjoy your LONG and ARDUOUS expedition into class III fun.

any evidence of violence/drugs/.......yer toast! DONT EVEN BOTHER! go watch you tube or join the military.

I think the "department of choice" for getting Class III's signed off around here is Chandler PD. You might look into it. ;)

charleskieffner 06-18-2009 06:37 PM

oh yeah. they dont have to return the fingerprints you paid $48 bucks for or give you a reason why yer denied. i had my lawyer do a background check on me because i was so pissed. i also did one on myself in the interim via internet while lawyer looking me up thru his sources. not a gawd damn thang on me! pure as the driven snow. a honest to god life boy scout. not that i didnt do anything wrong, when i was younger(oh contrare).................i just didnt get CAUGHT!

yes quite possibly a NON INCIDENT, non legally binding like my R.O. that i got dragged into court for making the remark " if i dont get yer insurance companys name im calling the police and we are gonna kick yer ass legally" can get you DENIED at the LOKAL YOKAL LEVEL!

its pretty damn serious stuff.

but the reality its yer 2nd amendment right. so they just make it miserable for some of us. the problem with some of us.....................we dont surrender nor give up EVER! always have plan "Z" in place.

Nothing like that. but I'm not sure its worth all the trouble now.....

charleskieffner 06-18-2009 06:48 PM

hell YES ITS WORTH THE TROUBLE!

2 best investments you can make:

RAW LAND

BLACK EVIL NON POLITICALLY CORRECT FULL AUTO/SUPPRESSED/SBR "ASSAULT WEAPONS"

nothing better than going "PFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFTTTTTTTTTTTTTT X 40!

or

"RAT-A TAT TAT TAT TAT TAT TAT!"

you will NEVER LOOSE A PENNY ON EITHER INVESTMENT!

ya may have to sit on the land, but the class III, whats here is here and there aint gonna be any MORE MADE!

please look at M-14 full auto prices from the 1980's until today. good luck finding one!

a stupid FULL AUTO HK SEAR (u-shaped piece of metal), $12,000 BUCKS! cost to make..........maybe $10 dollars.

Just to be clear, an individual, private citizen must consent to BATF inspections of their "storage facilities" when accepting a class III license. A class III is different from an FFL that allows one to buy and sell commercially, or to operate a gun smithing business. An FFL does not give the BATF free reign to search, er... I mean "inspect" at a whim. A class III does. Any time, at their discretion.

Joeaksa 06-18-2009 09:31 PM

Chuck,

If you want to set up the trust route, email or call me. Did it a year ago and it works very well. Nuff said!

I think you may have this backwards. I'm pretty sure that mandatory search compliance only applies to dealers and manufacturers (FFL's). If you are just a private owner of a class III gun/suppressor, you are not automatically subject to mandatory/random search compliance (even of storage areas) without a warrant. Now, if you build a class III SBR, that technically makes you the "manufacturer" and subjects you to search compliance.

For instance: If you want to build an SBR AR-15, simply mating a complete upper to a complete (previously-unregistered) lower still makes you the "manufacturer" (requiring your name/location to be engraved the lower receiver).

Also, there is not really any class III "license". As soon as you get your tax stamp (actual postage-like stamp), you can legally take possession of the firearm/suppressor. Just be sure to have a copy of your form 4 and tax stamp wherever the gun is/goes.

Take my word for it, in the hands of someone with the proper training a SMG is -not- a bad choice for home defense.

LOL

Rick Lee 06-19-2009 08:06 AM

Any SMG in .45 or 9mm might not be too bad for home defense. But a rifle caliber would be a big problem unless you have no neighbors for miles. Besides, if you're ever involved in a defensive shooting situation, a class III gun sure is an expensive piece to have taken into an evidence locker for months, years or longer. If you use it, you are gonna lose it for a while. I can replace any of my handguns for $500-$1000 the next day. Not the same with a class III weapon.

HHI944 06-19-2009 08:07 AM

In the hands of someone with proper training, a claymore apers is GREAT for home defense. Doesn't mean it's the wisest choice.
I'll take a suppressed ptr91 any day o the week for home defense. Familiar build, reliable and dead fuchin accurate.

kmhemi 06-19-2009 08:42 AM

I dont have the training some of you guys on here have. That is why I would rather have the 12 Ga or Glock .40 for self or home defense. besides i would rather take my chances in court with a single 12 ga round being fired as opposed to a 32 round clip full of 45's from an open bolt Mac. However, I am certain a very select few of you guys are very effective with a SMG. I have seen what they are capable of when properly used. Its quite amazing actually.

The SMG wouldn't see much use...maybe none...I can think of half a dozen firearms I bought new that have never been fired. All still sitting in the safe waiting for their chance to broken in and may never see it.
I have just about changed my mind on this adventure. Maybe I'll go buy some more handguns instead.... a few more .45's is always money well spent.
