Might as well get out American Graffiti whilst your at it

Heel n Toe 06-18-2009 09:34 PM

Hey, don't diss American Graffitti, afterburn... we're talking musicals here. Heh heh.

KT, to follow up with another flamer of a movie, get that other one... High School Something... the one with John Travolta playing the lead character's mom.
:D

I've owned Grease on DVD for years. Saw it in the theatre when I was seven, just after it was released.

trekkor 06-18-2009 10:14 PM

Travolta is a weirdo!

Isn't that 'Hairspray' yer talking about?

KT

Probably.

You've already seen it, right?

porsche4life 06-18-2009 10:20 PM

Yup you need to watch hairspray. My g/f watched it. I layed my head on her lap and slept :D

trekkor 06-18-2009 10:29 PM

I only saw the 'Ricki Lake/Divine' original... A long time ago.

I will no longer watch men in drag ( knowingly )

I remember Olivia Newton John from the mid 70s, sort of. So I read up on her just now and - wow - she had a huge and long career. After her pop-country albums ran their course, she made a huge comeback with Grease, and I had totally forgot that she came back huge again with "Physical". Olivia was of course utterly uncool through essentially all of my rock/pop music listening years. But I seem to remember having some of her albums anyway. I just went on iTunes and browsed her songs. I find them almost unlistenable now.

Hairspray is definitely a Baltimore thing...very funny if you are either from or familiar with the area. I saw John Waters at a restaurant years ago; very creepy looking guy.

If ever there was an actor/actress that had a career ending defining moment, I would have to say it was Olivia Newton John. One word:
Xanadu.

Grease has some terrific songs - had the double LP movie soundtrack when I was a kid. And yes, I did see bits of the movie last night as well. We all need a little bubble-gum / sock hop muzak from time to time...

Where is your wife from? I grew up in Locust Point, near the Inner Harbor...no trace of the Bawlmer accent, although we do go downie oshen every onceinawhile!

berettafan 06-19-2009 07:44 AM

downie oshen....love it!

we live at the 'oshen' now. wife is a 'grease' fan doesn't really get hairspray as she grew up on kent island. my family on the other hand is all from balmur. dundalk, lutherville, bel air, white marsh, kingsville...you name it.

berettafan 06-19-2009 07:45 AM

tin men also was very balmur IIRC.

JavaBrewer 06-19-2009 08:20 AM

I'll be the outsider here...

The first (and last) time I saw Grease I was my late 20's - my then gf (wife now) rented it for me. I never liked John or Olivia and I'm not into musicals...so needless to say I did not "appreciate" the movie as much as my wife...

afterburn 549 06-19-2009 08:23 AM

Ok I will admit I like it (Grease )
Just need a good dose of "Paint your Wagon" next round to wash it dwn

URY914 06-19-2009 08:25 AM

Grease is the word.
