The first Band I formed was in 4th grade - we were simply known as "The Group". we are on TV twice - Jerry Lewis telethones and a local show called community auditions (the very first efforts of America's Got talent!). I had a band in HS - Long Island Sound. made sense cuz our town was on Long Island Sound. I later had formed a jazz/swing band in Boston called "The Way".

The 50 lb solution.

Has to do with packaging of a certain fertilizer, the size of the bag, and how many pounds were required to "solve" a problem. The ultimate solution was the whole bag...

The Miami Relatives

They emerged during the Elián Gonzáles fiasco back in 2000.

A friend of mine back east played with a band called "Hot Damn" (named after the liquor). One night they canceled a venue at a local bar because their singer was ill with the flu. Fortunately the bar had another band standing by as a backup who was able to stand in. The name of the "other" band? A little-known (at the time) group called the Gin Blossoms.

I played two shows with some schoolmates in high school for a talent show, we called ourselves "Rat Salad".

Google "sofa kings band." There are a ton of them out there...very common band name. (The Sofa Kings out of Oliver Branch, Mississippi are playing at my wife's birthday bash in August.

my pelican parts forum nom de plume is in homage to norwegian rock band Turbonegro, a band that when asked what the name meant once said "A turbonegro is a large, heavily armed, well endowed black man driving a fast car, out for vengeance. We are his prophets."

'deathpunk' is what they called their music.

I've always liked "...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead" and "Dogs Die in Hot Cars" is another interesting one.

I think I remember those guys, they had a bit of a local following. I was not that into heavy metal, but this screamingly hot hula dancing instructor I was dating was so...

Butthole Surfers

The Meatmen

I always thought the Mothers of Invention was pretty good. My Aunt was friends with Mr Zappa's mother, or some such thing.

Toad the Wet Sprocket.

If you're going to steal, you could do worse than to lift your band name from an obscure Monty Python sketch.

Honorable Mention: Dead Kennedys.

Make your own band name using one word in the field:

"We May Not Go Down In History, But We'll Go Down On Your Little Sister."

Could have been an Over The Line moniker, but I'll waiver all claims.

Paul,
I thought that was a Navy Toast? ;)

"Special Sauce" is a good one. As is "No Cover".

Indeed, our song was an instrumental, so it felt appropriate.
