I think 89911 is on to something. I've had excellent luck with CL, even selling some fairly esoteric Porsche stuff.

Better for mundane stuff, tho. Just got a Jeep and swapped the nasty looking stock wheels and tires for some nice new Chrysler take off rims from eBay. Popped the Jeep wheels & tires on CL and had cash in my hand within 4 hours. And I had put a high price on the wheels & sold with no negotiation whatever.

Most of the time, CL beats eBay and Pelican because folks know where you are (some Pelicanheads like to keep that secret), and they are ready to come by with cash -- no Paypal fees. No packing.

I want to be in your shoes if the biggest issue in your life is some craigslist spam!!! Get over it...

Still think its the best way to buy/sell stuff online. ...Or get a job for the matter!

No different than ebay. They both suck these days. The stupidity of society-at-large has (unfortunately) caught up with technology. Used to be that the Internet was a refuge of individuals who were (mostly) educated, intelligent and a couple of cuts above the average goober out there. No longer. It has become mainstream and as such, tainted with the idiocy of the mainstream.

You wouldn't believe the idiot questions I've gotten for "for sale" stuff on both venues. Now I just let the auctions run out and whatever the end price is, it is. I don't even bother reading or responding to the questions, even if it could potentially land me a few more bucks. Not worth it.

The thing that pisses me off the most about CL is the people that say, "yeah I'll be over at such-and-such time", then never show, forcing me to waste MY time sitting around with my thumb up my ass. EXTREMELY inconsiderate.

Violins now or would you like to schedule it for such-and-such time?

Same here. I also put in my ad "I will only respond to replies that include a phone number. Sorry, too much spam." I'm pretty sure a buyer will provide their phone number if they're really interested.

I love Craig's list. My wife swaps out furniture on a pretty regular basis. We post the old stuff on Craig's list and come out even or ahead most times.

I just bought 2 SCUBA tanks on Craig's list last Friday. Paid $30 each and they had a year left on the hydro's and about 9 months on the visuals! Almost as cheap as renting.

I've bought and sold quite a few motorcycles as well.

A spammer will just make up a phone #.

At least that would filter out most bots.

Maybe we need a tutorial on "Common Sense and the Internet"? Seriously, there's a delete button on your keyboard for a reason.

I get much better response from my car ads on Craigslist. I have the XJR on Autotrader, $40 and I haven't received a single response. I had one serious buyer fall through, and another coming tonight (hopefully) with cash to pick it up. Both from CL, along with multiple other serious interested buyers.

So true, sold my CB400F on CL, bought my VFR from CL. It's easy to spot the flakes. Sold my 66 Mustang, one person claiming to be a 16 yo girl "wanted it". I emailed back and said fine, you have your Dad email me and we'll exchange info. Never heard from again.

It's been way more productive than not. I've had just as much or more spam and/or time wasters listing cars on specialist forums like Jag-lovers.org or Pelican.

Seems like it's way too easy for some to blame the tool they use versus their use of the tool.

Insert just about anything for "tool" these days, stop there, and you have a winner.

we are a nation of whiners.

I presume everyone knows that the emails that use the term "item" are bogus, as in "is your item still available?" These are usually sent within 30 minutes of your post going up. Recently, I have seen people add the subject to these emails instead of "item." They are ever more clever, these spammers. But not clever enough. My ISP catches 99% of them and my mail filter catches almost all the rest. If one spam mail hits my inbox a day, that's a lot.

Yup, generic statements and questions are a dead giveaway. That along with really odd use of english makes spotting the scammers a breeze.
