Beer Van Business

Has anyone done or have heard of anyone doing this? I saw the ice cream van go by and all the kids flocked to it. So it got me thinking about having a beer van driving around and selling beer out of it. It would probably be a hit around here. Is this idea even possible?

Dude, what are you, Wile E. Coyote in human form?

The beer van is a great idea!!!!!

I think licensing would be a problem, though. Check with Ingham County about a temporary license. Think of it like a beer cart at a carnival and go from there.

Wile Coyote that's funny!

It is a good idea. Licensing may be an issue but I'm sure in these economic times something can be worked out. I was just thinking that a School bus would even be better. I mean I could call it a beer bus! if you want only want short drinks you can get the 'short' bus and if you want regular drinks you can get the regular bus. Heck you could set it up for parties or whatever. I really like this idea but I don't know if it's even doable...

Down here is $100k for a beer and wine license and there is a wait list. Not sure other state regs but I can't imagine it would be easy, assume another $100k in lawyer fees.

I don't think you need a license to sell beer out of a truck. Use Dixie cups and when you give the guy a beer, just wink and say, shhhhh. they'll get it.

I think your biggest problem will be going more than a few blocks before you are out of beer. Do you have a semi license?

if there is a problem with selling beer out of a truck, just make plastic popsicle shaped containers, fill them with beer...you're selling ice cream now. problem solved.

I don't think it would fly except in areas where you can walk around with a beer in public, which are few and far between. You can't exactly run up to the truck, buy a beer and walk down the street with it. Where do you think you are? In a free country?

That may one of the coolest things I've ever seen! Drinking beer and cycling it off at the same time? Brilliant!

This reminds me of an indoor go kart track in Shanghai. There is a bar built into a building.

I can't begin to elaborate how much more fun it is when you're hammered...

Before our laws were relaxed a buddy used to deliver cold beer to your house, he had a lot of repeat business and would sometimes sell 100 cases a weekend with a $8.00 profit on each case plus the tips he'd get. it was when we were in school and Paul had this set up for a couple of years, before word got out. He quit cause it was too much of a hassle dealing with drunks all the time, they wouldn't have all the money etc.. he quit cause he got jumped by 3 guys (drunk) over 2 cases of beer, well Paul was tough so he quickly slapped these fools silly and took the money for the beer cause a bunch were broken in the scuffle, he got charged for assualt and robbery, it all got thrown out in court but it was a hassle for him. Its a good idea, but sooner or later there will be trouble cause your dealing with piss tanks

In college I had a roommate who worked at a beer distributor that was nextdoor to a gyro delivery place we always ordered from. Whenever we ordered gyros, we called the folks nextdoor and asked them to bring a case of beer over for delivery with the gyros. Sure was nice.

I've always thought there should be a "beer-man" like an old time milk man. For those of us who drink regularly. You get a 6 or 12 case of bottles delivered to your back door every few days and when you are done you put out your empties and the beer man exchanges them for more beers.

I haven't figured out how to keep kids from stealing your beers off your back porch but I think the idea has merit.

You can't get away with that everywhere. I used to do it in NYC when I was in high school, but that was before Giuliani came to power. It's probably illegal everywhere, but some places let it slide. It's like tailgating at Nissan Pavilion. You can have a tapped keg in your trunk, you can bring a blender and make margaritas. There are signs everywhere telling you how illegal all that is and cops ride around on bikes and horseback to make sure whatever you're drinking......is in a blue plastic cup. Drink a beer out of a can and the wrath of God comes down on you. Blue plastic cups are the key there. We tried that in VA Beach at a Rush concert and came as close to getting arrested as I've ever been except when I was arrested. Those signs really mean business down there.

Those are awesome but I was thinking more of a van or bus. I don't want to drive them around but flock to it like an ice cream van. I think that would be hilarious!
