Cracked tooth, fixed

Well, the other day a broke a tooth, called my dentist, a few days go by, it has been bugging me, I call again and am told they are trying to set an appointment and will call back. Well, last night, it really started bugging me, so a small pair of pliers later, problem fixed.... Shopping for a new dentist as this one, who I really like, but his staff isn't very efficient and this isn't the 1st time the staff screwed up..

trekkor 06-26-2009 07:45 PM

Yes, I tried the bonding kits sold at the drug store to hold me over until my dentist could see me, but they wouldn't hold. It just started bugging my to muc last night & was loosening up..

And I would have rather had my dentist do it, but even today, I still haven't heard back:confused: How many times should I have to call?? I had his & his wife's cell number in my old phone, but when that phone died, so did all the contacts.. BTW, that is a really gross picture, if my mouth looked like that, I would never open my mouth. I'm luck that it was kinda in the back, as I have to have a good smile with my work & will be having it replaced ASAP..

Doing that, and since I don't smoke, that helps. I did rinse a few times with hydrogen peroxide.

pete3799 06-26-2009 08:26 PM

Wow! nice set of choppers.

Oh Haha 06-27-2009 03:09 AM

I'm with you on that, Byron!

I used my Dremel to shave down a high spot on a repair my dentist performed. I went for a few days just dealing with it and then got fed up and took to it.

yep, wifey gave me the "look".

I could have gone back and had him fix it obviously but like my cars, it's just easier to do it at home.

NO! That's bad. No bubbles, it can loosen the clot cap and that'll result in dry socket.

Warm salt water and don't swish, hold it in your mouth and move your head around then hang over sink and let it run out, don't spit it. Straws are also bad, avoid creating a vacuum in your piehole.

I did that as well, just did the HP to help avoid any infection. As I'm still not driving, and am only walking limited, per doctor's orders:(
But, as usual, I'm drinking lots of water & rinsing with Lyserine..

Thanks for the advise guys!!!!!

Set up an appt and go in and talk with the Dentist, and no one else.

Have him look at your mouth where you pulled the tooth to make sure all is ok.

Then have a "Come to Jesus" talk with him that when a patient has an emergency that the staff need to tell him IMMEDIATELY, and not "keep looking for an appt."

If he does not offer to work with you on an implant to fill the hole in your mouth you can ask him about the lawsuit for keeping you waiting so long that you had to pull the tooth yourself. Take photos of it right now and save the tooth. IMHO not a court in the country that would not side with you after this.

Already planned on that, he belongs to one of the same Clubs that I belong too, and doesn't life that far from me.I'm thinking about going to brunch there tomorrow, as that is where I generally see him, and when he ask how am I doing, ect.. I kept the tooth both pieces, have it wrapped up. I know that he will do the right thing, it is just getting to him..

dentist90 06-27-2009 09:08 PM

Byron, you gotta bigger pair than I do! Although you hear stories (urban myths?) about people pulling, hammering and even shooting their own teeth out, very few actually have, unless the tooth was already very loose. It has been my experience that even loose teeth are not that easy to get out. If it was a back tooth it is usually multirooted, so it is a good idea to keep all the pieces to show your dentist (when you get a chance) to see if it looks like you got it all. An X-ray will confirm this.
The bright side? Just like repairing your own Porsche, you just saved a couple hundred dollars by doing it yourself!! :D

Dentist90,

As you seem to be in the profession, what are your feelings about the lack of response from the front desk staff to Byron?

Shouldnt he have been able to at least get into the dentist pretty quick? My Dentist always has gotten me in when I had something like this and at least put a temp fix on to get me taken care of until they had a full slot open. One time they did this and had me come back at 5 pm and spent another hour fixing the tooth correctly.

vash 06-28-2009 01:48 PM

dentist!!! for the uninformed..what is going on with that horrible picture you posted? is that tartar,,? gross.

i could never yank my own (painful) tooth. i am not man enough.

this rough character that used to work for my father got tired of his toothache one day on the job, pulled out his pocketknife, popped it out and kept working. impressed the hell out of me
