Best Way/Place To Sell A Rifle?

I have a Ruger M77V (heavy barrel) bolt-action rifle chambered in 25.06 that is about 20-25 years old or so, but in as new condition. Probably has less than 50 rounds through it total. It has a Redfield 3x12 scope that is the same age/condition as the rifle. It has been stored in a case in a climate controlled evironment, and cleaned/oiled periodically. I would like to sell it for a fair price, but want to avoid typical gun sale hassles. Any easy way to find a buyer for something like this? Also, any estimates on approximate value?

Thanks in advance,

JA

PM me with your best price. Or you could just list it on Gunbroker.com

Value right around $550.00.

that is where I would put it too.

Man, I was wishing it was a marlin camp 45 for $350!

Nice shooter though. I really like the 25-06 round. Flat and fast. Is it a thumbhole stock?

Jandrews 06-27-2009 05:59 PM

Yes, it shoots amazing. The heavy barrel and the 25.06 round is a tack driver! No thumbhole stock. I just don't use the rifle at all, and I don't think I ever will. That said, for $550 I would probably just keep it. How much would you say the scope is worth? Also, if I sell on Gunbroker, is it just like selling a used part on Pelican? Get Paypal from someone, box it up securely and ship it? That's it?

Thanks,

JA

If you sell it to anyone other than in your state, person to person, it will have to be done FFL to FFL. If Tabs or I would buy it for example, you would have to take it to a local FFL (gunshop) and send it to an FFL holder (gun shop) in one of our states. We would then have to go to the FFL and do the 20 questions and transfer. Money can be sent person to person, but the gun has to go FFL -FFL. I'm sure others will add to this. The same applies at gunbroker. They also charge a fee, which isn't bad.

Hell just keep it. It's a nice gun, has history, won't go down in value most likley, and you already have it!

If you do sell it. Sell the scope separate, you will make more money in the end. Scopes on guns add less value than if you sold the scope somewhere else.

Excellent advise targa911S...I really appreciate that - thanks! And yeah, with the hassle and minimal value, it probably just makes sense to keep it. Again, appreciate all the info.

U don't have to take it to an FFL to send...it just has to go to an FFL dealer. Many states require that it be run through the Fed Back Ground Check to sell person to person. Here in NV one can go to the Police Station to do that, for $25.00.

I was thinking right around $550 with the scope...they are basically a freebe to the new owner.

Fed Ex Ground for rifles is fine...

Many years ago I bought one of those in new condition for $200.00.

Today the only thing I have in 25/06 is an AO Neidner custom built on a Springfield action. Neidner was the developer of that cartridge back in the 30's. It is a necked down 30/06 cartridge..

I do private party gun deals all the time. It's not much of a hassle, depending on what state you live in. Now, when you're doing a cross-country trade with a complete stranger, that can take a leap of faith. But I've never come across anyone less than totally honest in dealing guns through local gun chat boards, Backpags, Gunbroker, etc.

I'd probably just keep it...
