Great, I have the flu
Arrgh. Chills, body aches, 102.5, bad headache, weak, a little dizzy. This is my typical set of flu symptoms, sometimes I get a sore throat but not this time, I don't usually get congested or sneezy and I'm not.
So I'd normally just stay in bed, sleep, eat (my appetite is usually stimulated), drink water, and wait it out. As I am doing today. Do I have to do anything different now that swine flu is out there? |

It will both help those tracking that bug and potentially give you a choice when it comes to the vaccinations for the flu this Fall. (If you know you've already had the swine flu, you may not need the vaccine -- which could be useful if doses are scarce.) |

But for flu I load up on Theraflu. (actually I get the generic, same chit, better price) Does not help it go away but makes it easier to deal. |
not to alarm you, but you likely do have swine flu. Not a huge deal as the CDC estimates over 1 million Americans have had it. They are only actively testing & confirming cases in seriously ill (hospitalized) people, kids and those in long term care facilities.
I say most likely because of how far out of normal flu season we are. Treatment seems to be the same as convenional flu, I hear. I had the flu of some sort this winter and I was told to alternate tylenol & ibuprofen every 4 hours to bring down the fever. Sleep, lots of water etc. Hope you feel better soon, the flu sucks! |
Not sure about the swine flu thing.
I got kicked on my butt two days ago. 101+ fever, chills, everything hurt and so on. Two sleepless nights, drenched with sweat naked and sheetless in front of the open 55F window and a miserable day in front of CSI reruns and The View - this morning I wake up like normal and have a typical day. I had the flu and the pneumonia shots last fall - maybe the painful pneumonia shot helped - but I still was sick but survived. Likely a viral drive-by shooting. Fluids/electrolytes/good humor will help. Skip the View. Strange though as I've been pretty solitary lately and nobody I've been around has been sick. May be the CIA or some black project. |
Same thing happened to me about two weeks ago.
Monday night I went to the local emergency room at my wife's urging. They did a few tests, gave me an antibiotic prescription and sent me packing after 4.5 hours. $1700... Wednesday I was feeling pretty good. Still had a sore throat and a cough. Out of nowhere the sore throat stopped, but... I started coughing up blood. It stopped, but after drinking some water it came on stronger and with gross chunks. Back to E.R. More tests ( the same ones ) and laying there for 3.5 hours and 'see ya'. $4500... Almost $1000 an hour for about 2 hours of attention. KT |
If you do have swine flu; lucky you.
Because by the time the rest of us get it it will have muted enough to kill us. And if this flu doesn't kill us the next bird flu/swine flue/blah blah flu flue will. So enjoy your cars, guns, chainsaws. lattes, resturants, blond girls (not neccesarily in that order ;) ) while you can. |
