99 rustang transmission repair
Any Rustang owners / hobbyists on here?
I keep looking for a cheap ragtop to beat around town. I would like a project that is limited in time. Found a clean car with a bad transmission. 99 Mustang with a V6. What sort of transmission does this thing have? What is the best way to repair? Are there exchange units? I have rebuilt a TH350 before, if it is not any harder, I'd tackle it myself too. What is the DIY cost, exchange trans and / or self repair? Thanks, George |

A 1999 Mustang V6 would be the 4R70W (4=4 speed, R=rear drive, 70= torque rating, W= wide ratio). They are really no harder to rebuild than a TH350. Most of the complexity is in the valve body. Here is a very good re-build diary thread : http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=128800
BTW, you can buy a used transmission for a 99 Mustang V6 for $250-300. Try car-part.com and find one near you. Good luck. Let us know how it goes! E |

If you have any local pick and pay (junkyards) around you should have no problem finding a working transmission for less than $200.

Turns out seller is a dud. Never got a call or email back on the ad. Still, good to know that a trans issue on one of these is no deal breaker. (One can deduct $1500 off sales price though!).
