I'm Back

Thursday: Bloomington to Atlanta
Friday: Atlanta to Melbourne
Saturday: Packed the truck (and it was FULL).
Sunday: Melbourne to Clarksville (with a stop in Atlanta to drop off my mom).
Monday: Clarksville to Bloomington

Side note: I hit Nashville around 6:15 last night. Apparently there was a big accident on I-24 West and the whole interstate was closed, but I couldn't find any information about it on the local radio, because apparently the ex-quarterback of the Titans got murdered, and that was a bigger story.

CB Radios are your friend on road trips. I just bought an FJ from Tennessee with a CB in it and on the drive back to FLA I realized this is the only way to travel. MY V1 is now a toy on my dash and whenever there is a huge backup the chatter on the CB warns you well in advance.

I wish I would have known you were 70 miles North I could have rustled up Rammstein and we could have come up to help with the truck loading / drank beers.

I need to poke in here more often...

I still have family in the area. I'll be back.

Unfortunately my recent trips have been all business and on a tight time line. I still need to swing by Jacksonville and have a few with Byron too.

Garage
you were gone?

I also like the little walkie talkies if you have a few cars in a caravan.

I've had a few old CB's. Never been able to understand anything said out of the speaker on one, ever. I don't know if this is a quality issue, and more expensive CB's sound better...

but in my experience CB talk just sounds like the teacher from the charlie brown movies.

I cannot remember the model I have but yes, there are times when its hard to understand the "drawl" coming across. But that is rare, maybe 10% of the time.

Driving through Georgia, I started hearing about an "Aggravation Station" setup and "there are about 12 clerks looking for customers" at MM11 on interstate.

Then I heard some more chatter about a bird on a bridge with a laser gun.

It did not take a rocket scientist to figure out there was a speed trap at MM11 with a cop up on a bridge running laser and 12 more in cars waiting for pull you over.

I slowed down after MM12 and low and behold at MM11 there was the cop with the laser gun and all the others on the get em on ramp waiting. Further up about 4 cars pulled over.

I also heard some pretty funny banter going on. The only problem I had was that I was moving much faster (80ish) than the truckers (from what I gathered, most were doing 65 to save on fuel) so any pocket I got into that was good would fade away eventually.

The best information actually comes from oncoming truckers that saw what your about to see.

I was using it again in South Florida this past weekend. did you know these darned things work in Spanish too??

legion - Palm Bay and Melbourne were my old stomping grounds, we may have hashed this out once before, although I think it was skidpup that I hased ti out with. We used to be in the same places at the same time in the 80's but did not know each other.

Next time your down this way let me know and I'll come up in the Mazda of death.
