What Can you do now that you couldn't when you were 20

We had the what can't you do that you could when you were 20, lets turn it around - other than save money on car insurance, what benefits does maturity bring?

Last week I took some good friends out to a nice restauraunt, my AMEX, never gave it a second thought until now. Back in the day, we fought over every last penny on a bill.

I'm thinking age and wisdom probably outweighs youth and enthusiasm

Grow hair on/in my ears:D

Bench press 350 lbs... :D

Drive through a speed trap going 10 over and be confident I won't get pulled over.

Not get mad when someone else is driving like a jackass.

Think with the big head more than the little one.

Buy just about anything I want.

The ironic thing is, now that I'm older I really don't want to buy anything.
As much as I like toys I hate spending money even more.

Only place it grows reliably these days ! :)

Confidence level, ability to do just about anything (within reason) financially that I want, retire shortly. Life is a lot better now than it was when I was a pup.

Despite my problems in the "relationship ended" thread, I can honestly say each decade life gets better...e.g., my 20's were good but 30's better; 30's good but 40's better...etc etc etc.

Just waiting for the other shoe to drop in 60's, 70's or 80's:D

Write a check for a new car or boat.

______________

An elderly woman is sitting in a very crowded mall parking lot in her Mercedes. She has watched a couple get into their car and she now sits just behind them, patiently waiting for them to back out and go, so she may have their parking spot.

They back out and leave and just as she puts her car in Drive to pull in, a new Corvette comes flying down the lot from the opposite direction, and with screeching tires pulls into and parks in 'her' spot. A 20-something hops out, closes the door of his immaculate Vette. He pauses near the rear fender and brushes a speck of dust from the car.

As he walks past the elderly woman's car, she powers down the window.

"Young man, I was sitting here waiting for that parking slot!"

The kid looks at the old gal and says, "Sorry Granny, but that's the way it is when you are young and quick!"

The lady powers the window back up, clicks the lever into reverse and backs as far as she can, then back into Drive... she then floors the accelerator and smashes her Mercedes into the back of the shiny Corvette! The kid is horrified!
She calmly finds reverse, backs up and repeats the process, now crushing the front of his Vette against a large SUV that is parked in front of him.

The kid is screaming, hopping, waving his arms, he's in total shock!

She continues the ramming process until his Corvette is about half its original size and the front of her Mercedes is pulverized, smoke and steam pouring from under her hood.

She finally turns off the key and calmly exits her car.

"Are you INSANE...you crazy B^%CH!" he screams at her.

She politely hands him her insurance card info. and says, "That's the way it is when you are old and RICH!"

Tig weld, build and fly airplanes, do high quality restoration work, fall asleep at 9:00 pm, get a buzz from just a couple of drinks.......

At 73, I have difficulty remembering 20 (or caring).

Best,
Tom

Wish I was 20 again. :(

Fix just about anything I own now.

flatbutt 07-08-2009 09:16 AM

anything that requires a credit score over 800.

Cook a good meal.

Go to a party and NOT get hammered.

Drive someplace without behaving aggressively and going as fast as possible.

I'm in better shape, and a better skiier and golfer today than I was back then.

porsche4life 07-08-2009 09:31 AM

I haven't seen 20 yet so I'll get back to you in a few years....

Danimal16 07-08-2009 09:53 AM

Laugh at stuff that used to bother me.

Appreciate the true sense of a Golden Retriever.

Trust but verify, and never trust anyone under 40 (well without verifying)

Not afraid of dying.

Memories of good times.

Forgiveness with accountability.

Not giving a rats behind about being "in".
